The attachment below is a screen shot for the Post view on the Forum.

The image is divided vertically into 2 parts. The left part is the user (poster) info and the right side is the post. The user part gives the Name, Online Status, Gender, Location (if provided), Avatar and No. of posts made . The marked icons / portions in the image are ;

1. Both icons can be clicked to send Private Messages (PM) to the user. The icon on the top is green when the user is online & white when the user if offline.
2. The Avatar, icon & the username can all be clicked to see the Profile of the user.
3. Is the forum's Like icon and link (thumbs up/down. Not shown here). Info alongside can tell you how many like that post has received. Clicking that will open up the names of the "likers".
4. Are the Previous & Next Topic buttons. Clicking these will take you to the Previous or the Next topic in that Board.
5. Is the "report to moderator" link. If you find portions or the entire post objectionable you can report the post to a moderator for further action.
6. Are the Quote / Quick Edit / More buttons. You can quote part or whole of the post in your reply by clicking this button. Quick Edit & More are available in your own posts only for editing your posts.
7. Is the Signature of the user. Any member can have a custom signature which can be created in your Profile options. The signature is added to every post / message that you put up on the forum. It can be used to tell more about yourself.
8. Is the clickable Website icon of the member, if applicable.
9. Is the clickable BG Chart of that member.

skb, this is very helpful, but I believe you have a typo...should not the second 1 be a 6?

Did you mean the red coloured pointer numbers. There are two 1s and two 2s in the image.

Both the icons indicated by "1" can be clicked to send a PM and
Both the icons indicated by "2" can be clicked to see the User Profile.

The icon indicated by "6" can be used to quote from the user's post.

Filter Posts by Member

The filter (funnel) button shown in the image below can be clicked to filter (and read) posts by any particular member. The same icon can be clicked again to sort the posts by all replies/members.
