Hello all. I was going to report that my fasting sugars are gradually coming down since adding an additional 500ml of metformin. I had risen to around 170 in the mornings due to very poor diet for a while. Two days ago it was 130. I'm using a low carb diet (couldn't stick to Keto) but this seems to be working. One of my issues today is that my local PA gave me Predisone to help a condition he thinks is asthma ... OMG. 242 this morning. I'm stopping that!! I will have to walk to Egypt and back to get rid of that !! Which in fact I am kind of doing in Nov. We are vacationing in Egypt. We love to travel. Got my new Merino wool walking shoes in the mail so am breaking them in thrifting with my granddaughter today! Just wanted to vent about the steroids. I am usually good about researching ANY MED I ingest but I was lazy and really liked the PA guy. Thanks for listening. V

Yeah, steroids are known to raise blood sugar and the PA should have known that and warned you.  They affect different people differently so usually you have to try it and test to know.  I had a steroid injection for my knees and the doctor warned me ahead of time that is can raise blood sugar and would only do one at a time but I had only a small raise in my bg so I went ahead with the other knee.  It's just one of the things you have to be aware of.
You don't have to go by a strict keto diet to control your bg but keeping carbs low is the key.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

Agree with Wally we all have to find our own way. Low carb is the best way to start if that doesn't work for you well, then try keto again but approach it slowly.

No question steroids are well known to raise bg, but it is different for everyone. Maybe your PA can reduce the dose some? Did the med help your other symptoms? Maybe there is some wiggle room in the dosing that can help w/out raising our bg?

Haven't taken any meds for the past 10 years except for the met in last 1 year so I don't have any personal story, but I do know that steroids do push BG north.

Even a "better carbs" philosophy works in bringing down BG to some extent. Do, what works for you. Monitor and keep control. Checking just the morning number is not enough until you are in complete control of your BG throughout the day.
