Tartar Sauce

We had fish tonight, and I've always made my own tartar sauce just by adding pickle relish & minced fresh onion to full-fat mayonnaise. Season to taste with salt/pepper.

Well, I dunno what came over me tonight, but I added a couple more ingredients, and this one is going on the permanent menu.

1 cup full-fat mayonnaise
3 or 4 tbsp. minced fresh onion
3 or 4 tbsp. sugar-free pickle relish
1 or 2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
1 or 2 tbsp. capers
salt/pepper to taste

I was afraid BH wouldn't care for it, because he usually likes his foods pretty sweet, but he surprised me!

Wow Shanny!!  That really sounds good!  I may have to thaw out some fish for dinner tonight!

We thought it was really good . . . I just love those sour little capers!

I was wondering what to fix for dinner tonight - so now I'm thinking fish with this tartar sauce, and a side veggie.  Yummmy!  I love fish - it's so quick and easy to saute in butter on the stove top.

My BH and I love fish but we don't like the commercial tartar sauce because of all the 'stuff' in it.  Thank you Shanny for sharing such a good recipe.

I made Shanny's tartar sauce recipe last night, except without the capers and I chopped up a slice of dill pickle as I didn't have premade relish.  It was delicious on top of my Petrale Sole --- and very filling!  I had several pieces of fish with sauce, and a small side of steamed green beans and I was full for several hours.

Thanks Shanny, I'll be trying this tomorrow.  :D

I made this today to have with my fish for dinner.  I had to do a couple of tweaks due to end of the month pantry deficits.  ;)

Instead of the minced onion I used 2Tbsp of freeze dried red onion and 1 tsp freeze dried scallions.  I am out of relish so I diced 3Tbsp of garlic dill slices.  No white wine vinegar so I used 1Tbsp coconut vinegar.  1Tbsp capers.  It tasted a bit vinegary at first but a couple hours later when I tasted it is was sooooooo good!!!  I may try it with lemon juice instead of the vinegar.... maybe. This is really a keeper!!

Thanks Shanny!
