QuoteMany people with diabetes endure multiple, painful finger pricks each day to measure their blood glucose. Now, researchers reporting in ACS Sensors have developed a device that can measure glucose in sweat with the touch of a fingertip, and then a personalized algorithm provides an accurate estimate of blood glucose levels.

They don't mention the 'pain and inconvenience' of finger sticks being caused by the ridiculous price of said test strips.

A new sweat device where you have to place your finger on the spot for 1 whole minute in order to get a reading?  Hmmm....not sure that will catch the attention of too many people especially since there are other glucose monitors that are much faster and also are "paired" with the insulin pump for a reading.

A CGM and a pump are fine for a type-1 but for a type-2 there is no insurance coverage for a CGM ant the cost is way too high.  Even the Freestyle Libre that I tried once was too expensive and was not covered at all by Medicare or insurance.  On top of that it was not that accurate.  Of course the cost of a device like this may be too much also but in time I think there will be an alternative to finger sticks that may be worth while.

I recently read about the next version of the Apple Watch in the works, which will be able to measure a whole lot of body parameters including BG. I presumed that it would do so from sweat sensors and that is why I thought of sharing this.

I know people who are Type 2 that have insurance for the Libre or the Dexcom.  How they accomplished this, I do not know.  But it might be worth the investigation if you're interested.

Grammabear, some may have insurance that will cover a CGM for a type-2 but Medicare will not unless you are using insulin.  If they are a type-2 and using insulin then Medicare will cover it.  I did investigate it a while back.
SKB, I heard about the Apple watch and that it may measure bg whitch would be quite a good reason to get one depending on how it worked.
