Hi everyone. I'm MaJoie from another forum. I've been having trouble with my email and couldn't get the link to work or reply to Sayam. Googling Diabetes Pub kept getting me pubmed and such kind of articles. Finally figured it out. I am so glad to see so many "old friends" here.

I was diagnosed in 2004 "Oh, you're diabetic!" and given a diet (ADA of course) and a script for a class that was very expensive and not covered by my insurance. I did the best I knew. A coworker lent me her copy of South Beach Diet so that was my guide for years. I did OK by ADA standards, but eventually my fasting numbers crept up and I was prescribed Metformin. Took that for several years, then when my A1c got over 7 I was prescribed glipizide. I never felt so horrible in all my life. I was told I had to eat every 2 hours, a little carb and some protein. I gained more than 10 pounds in a month and then decided I couldn't stand it anymore and quit the glipizide. Reached medicare age and got a new doctor who gave me samples of Invokana. I took 1 tablet and before the next dose was due I fainted. On my face on the kitchen floor. Never took the 2nd dose.
So I got online trying to figure out what to do. I found Blood Sugar 101 and began testing and trying to eat to the meter. I was already eating much lower carb than the SAD. I had no idea how really low carb I had to go. And the high fat scared me until I read everything I could get my hands on starting with Gary Taubes' book.
Glad to have found you all. I'm looking forward to reading more of the intros and catching up with you all at this Pub.

Juniper,

I'm so very happy to see you here. Your emails kept bouncing off & we were at our wits end, how to contact you. Your account, however, was opened in the early days and we couldn't figure out what was keeping you away.

Well, here you are, and that's all that matters

Welcome juniper68,

Nice that you could find your way back. Yes, bookmarking the site will help. Google will yield results for Diabetic Pub, not Diabetes Pub.  ;)
