Low carb/carb balance tortillas/tacos Are they OK?

I've sen these low carb/carb balance tortillas/tacos in the store several times.  I really like tacos, have gotten in trouble with them a couple times.  Would these be safe to eat?  What has been your experience with them if any?  I don't want to spend the money (tight right now) on them and have to throw them away.

All comments welcome.

This is one of the most often questions from people who are new to LCHF or trying to lower blood sugar with diet.  The answer always has to be "maybe".  They are not OK for me but that does not mean that that applies to you.  I don't know of any way to tell if something is OK for your body other than "eat to your meter".  That means that you will surely have to throw out some things you find that you just can't handle but it's a learning process.  I tried all sorts of "low carb" bread, tortillas etc. and have found that I can't take any of them.  Some people find that it's no problem for them.  You just have to test and see.

There are some recipes to make taco shells with Provolone cheese and it works quite well.  I'll try to find one of them and post it.  We have Tacos every Friday here and I skip the taco shell and make a taco salad in a bowl.  Works for me.

Thanks for the reply walkerwally1.  I guess I knew that was going to be the answer.  I was just hoping against hope I would get a rousing round of "yeah, they're great, go for it!!"  :(

Here is a link to just one of the recipes for Provolone taco shells.

Google will yield many more.  Some use sliced and some use shredded cheese and many cheeses work.

Kelly, when I first started my diabetes journey, I could handle the Mama Lupe's low carb tortillas from netrition.com. Not every day but once in a while.  Then I began to notice an uptick in my numbers for a couple of days after eating them.  So I gave them up.  Recently I  gave them another try and for a while all was OK, but then the same thing happened.  Guess they are not going to be part of my menu.

Wally!  That is a great recipe!!  Thanks for posting it!  **Adding provolone slices to shopping list.**

Thanks for the recipe walkerwally1!!  That not only looks good but easy too!

Thanks bigskygal for your experience.  I guess I have to decide if I want to spend the money on the food and the strips needed to test it for myself.  I think like you, I am adding provolone slices to grocery list!!  :)

Sad but true, we all grasp at foods we want at the beginning.  Testing will give you the real answwer.

I'll miss the tortillas but I am learning that google is my friend in finding lc/hf substitutes for some of my old favorites
