108 this morning.

John - I have heard the Roomba's are wonderful.  Glad you have one less chore to take care of at your house.  I have thought of getting one, only I am not tech savvy, so don't know if I could set one up or not.  Vaccuming is not my favorite job.

We live in the country and our mailbox is at the end of our driveway on a metal post.  The post will swing away if the snow plow happens to hit it.  On Christmas Day in the evening, someone driving by our house hit the box and knocked it off the post.  Being as the post is a substantial metal pipe, I am quite sure that their car sustained substantial damage.  Now my husband has to put up a new metal box and hopefully the same person will not hit it again.

97 this morning.  They have backed off on the rain prediction for tonight and tomorrow and now there is only a 40% chance of rain late tonight and early tomorrow without a chance of snow.
This house was built by a contractor we know for his own house and all of the houses on this block were built by him.  All of the mailboxes are on the curb on one side of the street so the delivery person can access all of the mailboxes in one pass from the vehicle.  They were once on wooden posts but some individuals thought it was great fun to run over the mailboxes with their cars and did it way too many times.  As a result he welded a rack to hold 5 of the mailboxes out of heavy 2 inch tubing.  The running over mailboxes stopped and there have been no such incidences since.  It would cause very heavy  damage to any vehicle trying it.

Wally - Your contractor person was extremely smart to weld the mailboxes to the frame.  The person who hit our mailbox was either drunker than a skunk or under the influence of drugs because they not only knocked the mailbox off the post but bent the post at ground level.  Post for the mailbox was metal pipe about 2 inches across.  I might be mean, but sure hope they got a bunch of damage to their car.  My husband now has to dig into the ground and pull up the pail of cement and re-cement a new metal post.

115 this snowy morning.

31° was the high yesterday. It was lightly snowing when I got up this morning and has continued. About 2.5" so far. It is 31° right now high forecast is 32° with overnight of 21°. My weather app says the snow will probably last until around 5PM. I'm glad I went out yesterday!

The biggest mailbox killer we have around here is snow plows that routinely go too fast and are prone to either hitting them or covering them in mounds of ice and dirt. Grammabear, digging a post hole and filling with cement is not a chore for this time of year!

Our predictions for today vary - some promising ice and snow, others just light rain. I'm going to try to get out this morning so I'm hoping for just rain. Conditions between my place and town often vary considerably, so we'll see.

I'm considering naming my Roomba (you can call it whatever you want for Alexa commands) but haven't yet thought of anything really good - maybe something simple and biblical like, um, Melchizadech?

John - Perhaps you can think of a name for your Roomba from one of your favorite operas?  Does Roomba continue to do a good job for you?

Indeed digging a hole was a challenge for my husband, but not because the ground was frozen.  Every time he lowered the post hole digger, the hole filled in with mud from all the moisture in the ground.  We have not had significant snow since Halloween and our grass is brown and dry mostly.  The hole kept filling in with mud which made it very difficult to dig a 'clean' hole.  He eventually got the job done only to have to pull the cement block 3 times because the post/box wasn't regulation height.  We now have a new mailbox, post and hopefully it will avoid further damage from the same car.

103 this morning.  We never did get any rain overnight and now it is only partly cloudy.  It  now looks like a very low chance of anything for at least the next week.
I think a Roomba would be kind of neat but I don't know what the dog would react to it !

124 this cold morning. Woke up to a light dusting of new snow.

31° was the high yesterday. Today's forecast is for a high of 35° with overnight low of 24°. No snow in forecast for today but there is for tomorrow.

It will be a quiet New Year's Eve around here, just the way I like it!

136 this morning.

Roomba's (no new name yet) going great. Yesterday I found it vacuuming under my huge study desk and my bed. It's amazingly thorough.

Still sort of clunky weather up here with a little ice/snow yesterday afternoon, but mostly rain. Neither cold nor warm, but rainy and dreary.

No special New Year celebration for my house. I'll try to stay up until 9pm.

84 this morning.

Spent time yesterday at the GP "waiting" for the pre-op physical required by my insurance company.  It was not a pleasant experience in the waiting room since the majority of the people also "waiting" were coughing, hacking, sneezing and spreading their germs around.  The really sick people are supposed to wear face masks but I did not see anyone doing that.  Plus I ended up waiting over an hour just to be called into the exam room.

It sounds like Roomba is doing a good job for you John.  Cleaning under a big desk is hard in my opinion.  I wonder if Roomba goes back to the charging station if he doesn't find anything to clean?

Happy New Year Eve everyone.  It will be a quiet night here too.

100 this morning.  It's going to be sunny and temps in the mid 50s for at least the rest of the week.
Cleaning under the desk and especially the bed is a definite plus for the Roomba but I still wonder how the dog would react to it.
It's going to be a quiet NY eve here also.  Around 9:00 PM is probably my limit and I think the New Year will get here without any help from me.  Probably catch the Rose Parade and some football tomorrow.

116 this cloudy morning.

32° was yesterday's high. There is only a small chance of snow in the forecast for today and a bit for evening. Today's high is forecast to be 39° with overnight low of 34°. Warmer than it has been lately.

I most probably will be awake at midnight, I usually am, but not just because it is New Year's Eve. It will be quiet as usual here, except for the annoying neighbors that shoot off fireworks at midnight.
