Election results mean I'll probably lose my health coverage

I am pretty sure the ACA will be repealed once Trump takes office.  That means I'll lose the health insurance I've had for the past two years and become uninsured again.  So I've been looking around to get an idea of what my prescription meds might cost.  I did see that Costco has Metformin at a cost of about $225 for 100 pills.  Right now, my co-pay for the same amount is about $20, so I'll be paying a minimum of $800 more per year just for medication.  That doesn't include my other prescriptions, or the lances, etc. to test my blood.

Is anyone else concerned that they may lose their health coverage when the new administration takes over?

I'm terrified of what is to come . . . it's likely that Social Security and Medicare will suffer serious damage too, not to mention all the progress we'd made with human/civil rights for minorities. This is a sad sad day for USA.

Yes, I too fear that I'll never collect a penny of SS, because by the time I am old enough to do so; it will have long since been privatized and all that money gone *poof!* into pockets that are not my own.  Medicare will probably still be around, but I expect it too will be "tinkered with" until it is unrecognizable and no longer affordable either.

I have watched the US election process somewhat. It did touch some lows with all the mud slinging and personal attacks. But I do discount much of the rhetoric as just that. Speeches & policy are two entirely different things. To put many of the things that Trump spoke about, into practice, would mean going against the system & official machinery. It would be very very difficult.

I agree. I don't think there will be any drastic changes in the immediate time frame. Let's wait and watch.

I won't say too much about the current state of our politics, since this is a forum about diabetes.  I will only say that Republicans now control the Oval Office, the Senate and the House of Representatives.  There are no checks or balances at this time.  However, you are correct in that most legislative changes take a bit of time, but that will only stave off the planned drastic changes for awhile.  Unfortunately, the country is widely divided between two groups, and our core values are no longer aligned.  I see no chance of us "coming together" as President Obama hopes we will do.

I sincerely wish everyone would stop the fear about insurance.  In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, President elect Donald J. Trump has stated that people with prior medical conditions will not be denied insurance and several other provisions that are good under "The Affordable Care Act". AKA 'ObamaCare' will be part of the new insurance.  The cost will be an uncertainty for the present.

We need to accept this as the premiums of ObamaCare insurance are becoming too expensive and many companies are pulling out of the health insurance business and if ObamaCare were continued, soon many people would not be able to get insurance because of cost and availability.  I am fortunate that I am a veteran and can receive much of my medical care from Veteran Affairs.  I do receive some medical care from Medicare because I will not travel 7 hours round trip for care at the VA hospital.

Yes, I will soon be traveling an hour and one-half round trip five days per week for radiation for six weeks, but if I were to go the the VA hospital - I would have an operation and many problems which I will not have now.  I could travel five hours round trip to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, but I don't want even to travel that far.

You all need to stop listening to the bias press, especially those of you not in the USA.   President Elect Donald Trump has made it perfectly clear that he will see that the 3 million Americans that have preexisting conditions will be not lose a day of coverage when the new plan is put in place.

Actually, the House of Representative has a detailed plan that has already been approved by the House.   They were unable to get the Senate to vote on this bill. Now they will!  Included in this plan is coverage for everyone, competition across state lines, improved Medicare coverages, etc. etc.

If you really want to understand Trump and how this all will be happening watch carefully who he hires as his staff and cabinet members.   My opinion, due to his extensive business experience, he have the most qualified staff in history.  Don't judge them by your favorite media hype!  Do your own research, find their true history and biographies.....you will then understand!

That is true. We base our views from what we hear on the TV or read on the net. Whether all of that is biased, I'm not sure of that.
