Jenny Ruhl says don't donate to ADA

"This is when you should never give a penny to the American Diaetes Association. The bulk of their funding goes to fundraising expenses and huge executive salaries. They charge big bucks to subscribe to their publicatons. "Advocacy" is a handy way to describe other wastes of money. Their real advocacy is for drugmakers. The ADA has done nothing to help people with diabetes over the 19 years I've followed them. They have fought hard against informing the public that carb restriction works better than their sponsor's pricey, dangerous drugs." ~ Jenny Ruhl

For our members who don't use FaceBook, here is the original article from JDCA showing how little of ADA funding actually goes for research & patient support.  http://thejdca.org/ada-2016-3-of-income-dedicated-to-t1d-research-grant

Yeah, this is another "non-profit" organization that claims to be doing a lot and ends up doing very little.  They are paying salaries for executives and staff and I believe that is their true goal.  Part of their expense is for "education" and we all know how lousy that is.  They owe their existence to the Pharmaceutical companies and food manufactures that donate so much to get favorable guidelines.
Unfortunately there is just no money in lifestyle changes and better food choices.

Totally agree!  And the saddest thing is they have strong influence over what our doctors can say and do.

Barb, you are so right about the 'strong influence' they have over our doctors.  My GP is all for low carb and Paleo way of eating, and I only learned this when she and I were talking "off the record".  She encourages people with diabetes to go low carb and to enjoy things like butter, bacon, eggs etc., but it is always unofficial.  Sad indeed when doctors are reigned in from sharing their feelings openly.

As a new member here, I had seen the Bloodsugar 101 site and read a bit from it. But then I found the one to one feel of this forum a better place to learn. I know that she has a large following and wish that more people like her stand up and raise their voice against the "official" doctrine.
My life is based on a true story.

In the past when I wanted to learn about a new subject I was not used to using the internet and always turned to books.  The two books I started with for diabetes were DR. BERNSTEIN'S DIABETES SOLUTION and BLOOD SUGAR 101 by JENNY RUHL.  I learned a great deal from both of these and started to work on life style changes but it was the forums that actually made it possible to make it work.  There is nothing like the experience and support from others that are dealing with the same thing.
