Dexcom G5 Receiver with Touch Screen

Installing my new receiver proved interesting and fairly easy.

A reminder to anyone switching to it from an old receiver is that the old one must be shut down in order to successfully pair the new one with Bluetooth (all Bluetooth devices can only be paired with one mate).

I'm not sure, but I think it best, if you're using mobile apps as well as the Dexcom receiver, to pair the Dexcom receiver first. To be safe, I had my phone "forget" it's old pairing and turned Bluetooth off while I paired the Dexcom receiver. Once done, the mobile app then collected itself quickly and I was able to proceed with the session warm up period.

Once paired, the rest was easy and intuitive. The new receiver is a small and comfortable rectangle that slips easily in your pocket. It comes already in a black plastic case along with two extra cases of youthful pink and blue hues if you want something more colorful.

The touch screen works well and is a definite improvement. I don't know if Dexcom has upgraded software, but so far, accuracy is very good.

Note that the charging cable (a shocking bright lime green) is very short so if you're not planning on replacing it, you'll need to have an electric outlet quite close. Presumably, it can also charge from a USB port on your computer if you've got one free.

I also installed my new G5 receiver last Thursday and so far it is working better than the previous G5 receiver.  My receiver is the original model receiver as Medicare recipients are not allowed to have the updated receiver.  Glad to hear yours is working well.

I llogged into Clarity yesterday to sync my new G5 receiver and was surprised to find the last three months' data already there. That means, among other things, that it was already syncing from my "old" model G5. What I'm not sure is if it was connecting to the actual receiver via WiFi or with the Dexcom mobile apps.

I'll be curious to know if yours is also syncing wirelessly. Saves a lot of trouble if it is, but I still don't see a way to get Clarity to generate data for longer than 90 days. I'd be very curious to be able to see longer term trends.

Tamagno - I am afraid I cannot help you with the desire to learn if Clarity will give you more than 90 days information.  I haven't had the G5 long enough to generate 90 days information.  I do know that when I plug in the receiver to charge it, it automatically reads the receiver and the Clarity web page opens with the most recent information presented.

I had a well known CDE tell me that any glucose information beyond 3 - 7 days might not be as useful as once thought.  His position was that glucose readings are often changing from day to day depending on food consumed, stress level, weather changes, activity levels etc.  I find myself needing to make basal rate changes about every two or three weeks.  Everyone is different and what applies to one person doesn't always apply to the next individual.

Depends on what you mean by useful, vis, much longer range data would be just plain interesting to observe the progression of the illness, insulin usage, etc. and compare with known past illness, food trends and so forth.

I used to have a little iPod Touch app in which I stored all my readings from the outset of the disease. Unfortunately, not only is the data inaccessible on anything I can find, but even the iPod can no longer be used...
