I found this to be an interesting area of research

Wow! This one's indeed interesting, but well above any comprehension or knowledge I have of microbiology. The level of detail is amazingly fine and is perhaps indicative of the state of affairs at higher levels among good researchers.

It makes me wonder how exactly this will be put to use in medicine, and, if successful, what the implications are especially in conjunction with current nanotechnology work in progress.

From what I gathered, they will try to package a protein (calmin) in a genetically modified/developed virus which will ensure delivery to target hepatic cells.

I don't know, SKB, while I know there is already a variety of genetically altered material (some even chimeric which I've taken myself) it still strikes me as fairly hazardous territory especially when dealing with viruses.

Of course, I'd likely be even more put off by the use of radical nano-tech but these things appear to be the wave of the future.

I still have to admit it's all compellingly interesting.
