While browsing the internet I came across this. Has anyone used such a device ?

https://beatoapp.com/glucometers/glucometer-with-20-strips/

It's a smartphone plug in device which converts the smartphone into a meter. Smart idea, but the cost of consumables (strips) is slightly higher than what I pay for the AccuChek strips. However, I'm inclined to check it's accuracy and might order one.

Well, first I'd have to get a smart phone!  ;D ;D

(yes, I have a generic cell phone, but it only makes calls & texts . . .  ;)

I've seen this around too, SKB.

Beyond eliminating the need for carrying around a meter, I'm not quite sure the advantage unless it's got great connectivity apps.

T1s using CGMs are fairly quickly moving away from finger sticks so I haven't looked further. There's quite a bit of buzz the last couple of months around tech stuff from Fitbit and Apple Watch about getting into glucose monitoring, etc., so you might want to look around some.

This is the one I have seen being advertised in the USA :

It looks like the same thing but I really don't see what the advantage would be at this time. They claim strips cost around $.25 each so not too bad.  Not sure how it would work with newer iphones as it shows it being plugged into the headphone jack and mine doesn't have one.  The App may have more to offer though.

I use a Dario and love it. Mainly because the case is holds the strips, and is the lance as well.
