Oops, sorry, I didn't realize I had to post here first.  I have a strong family history of type 2 and was diagnosed pre diabetic over 7 years ago.  Switched to strict low carb and have maintained an A1c less than 6 ever since (well, there was one 6.2 but I think that was a mistake, since it was back to 5.7 in 3 months).  I have a Freestyle lite meter and get lab tests twice a year.  I was in a similar forum years ago (maybe the same one?) and got lots of great information from it.

I am also like you, not fully diabetic but on the edge. Still I think I need to be very careful. People here will tell you all the correct information. You will benefit greatly I am sure of it.
