The Old Lady in the Crowd, I think!

I'm Pat, patdart, and knowing my father had a blood sugar problem, at 70 I asked for an A1C with some other blood work being done and it came back 6.9.  At the time it had to be 7.0 here in the US to be diagnosed so my doctor just asked me if putting 'carb sensitive' on my chart would offend me.  I saw no problem in that and perhaps some advantage.  That was my last Coke I've had and I came home and jumped on the 'net and read up on it and put myself on Atkin's Induction until I could learn more.  In 3 weeks my A1C was run again and had dropped to 5.6 and my doctor and I talked and he just told me to keep doing what I was doing and he'd check it again in 6 months and it was 5.4.  That's been 6 years ago and the last time it was checked it was 5.0!  This WOE really works!  Over the next 8 months I dropped 50 lbs and it has been stable since then.  My birthday is 11/27/1939 and I believe i'm the oldest member as of now.  Oh, my cholesterol is wonderful on this diet and all other blood work is too. ;)

I live in Louisiana, US.

Hi Pat,

That is a wonderful introduction. Thanks.
In India it is customary & tradition to respect age. You have our respect for many more reasons than just age alone.
Your self determination of metabolic issues, taking charge, and never crossing that 7.0 % line deserves special applause

Hi Patdart and welcome....I think I know you from another forum .

You set a good example for us all!   I am not quit as 'timewise' as you are, but my Father in Law was born in July of 1916!   He grew up on a wheat farm in KS, and flew a B-17 in WWII.   He still has a clear mind and is going strong.....so anything is possible!

Look forward to hearing more from you...

Hi Pat - so nice to hear your story of how you got "here."  I think there are often two reactions to learning you have a particular health issue:

1) Be worried or upset at first, but then try to educate yourself on what you can do to deal with the situation, go beyond what your doctor may tell you, do research, and be proactive.

2) Feel sorry for yourself, try not to think about, and be unwilling to make changes.

I've been on both sides!  But the much better choice is #1 :)
