Omnipod and wasted/used insulin

Because Omnipod has a reservoir that's changed and disposed of every three days there is always insulin remaining in its 200 unit container that gets thrown away along with the used pod.

Additionally, my wife has concerns that insulin delivery may at times be slowed by air bubbles in the cannula - not an actual occlusion for which the device would alarm.

So we've hit upon a scheme of reclaiming and measuring the remaining insulin by means of the needle used to inject it into the pod.

I'll be trying it this afternoon to see what kind of success I have.

A much more difficult procedure than I'd imagined.

Next time I'll be using my drill press - seriously...

When I used the Omni Pod, I managed to withdraw a very small portion of the insulin that was left inside the used pod.  There are those on a facebook group who claim to be able to withdraw as much as is left - but I honestly don't know how that is possible.  I used the Pod for 3-1/2 yrs and never had much luck withdrawing the remaining insulin.  It isn't you Tamagno, it is the design of the Pod (IMO).
