Unconventional treatment

On and off we keep seeing adverts or hearing about herbs or other unconventional treatment for diabetes such as acupressure, acupuncture, ayurvedic, yunani, chinese etc.
I'm not a believer. My question is, has anyone tried these alternatives, and if so, what does your experience have to say about it ?

Don't know about the acupressure or acupuncture but I've tried all sorts of ayurvedic, yunani & home remedies. I can vouch for the fact that nothing works like carbohydrate restriction.

The logic is limit the cause, limit the symptoms & thus limit the complications.

Interesting.

Of course, here is not the place for theological talks, so I'll refrain other than to mention that I'm aware that India stands unique among the world's nations in that regard and that I expect there are a great many placing their faith squarely in their understanding of the Ayurveda and rebirths.

However, I very much concur that limiting and understanding consumption of carbohydrates is critical to the management of diabetes in every form.

I told my wife that I had heard about a sure cure for my diabetes!

When I explained what it was...for just a second, I think, she bought it....SMILE!

To be tactful, I will not give specifics beyond this, although I thought I heard her whisper something about 'dirty ole man'!

And that is as close as I have ever been to something other than LCHF, metformin, and insulin...for treatment of Type 2.

I look at yoga, massage, acupuncture, etc. not necessarily as a cure but more as additional tools to help me manage my diabetes and a way to help me find balance in life that will then ultimately help me to continue to exercise and eat healthy.

For me personally, stress can elevate my BG levels.  Whenever I've had a massage, I check my numbers and they are almost always lower.

When I was first diagnosed, I looked online for information about different things I could try to help "cure" diabetes, or better control it.  In my own experience, the thing that has worked consistently well for me is LCHF.  However, I also can be a high stress type of person, so I already try to incorporate meditation, massage and gentle stretching into my daily life as a way to calm my nerves and make life better overall.  I don't think they will do anything on their own to control blood sugar, but they are good in and of themselves.

Sweety,
Since you asked for experiences, I'm going to share mine.
I had it on authority from one of the seniors in our family who also happens to be a "naturopath". He asked us to keep 2 pieces of lady-fingers sliced and immersed in a glass of water overnight. Drink the water (very thick & viscous) first thing in the morning. He claimed that this will bring down AJ's diabetes within a month. We did this religiously for 6 months. Eventually, knowing skb, I enrolled on this forum, read all the articles and got help from the members here. That's what did the trick.

Have never liked okra, never!  I think I would throw up drinking a glass of that!

We always grew it when we gardened because Chuck likes it. I can only eat it in my own gumbo - nobody else's and no other dishes either.

I can remember as a kid being "forced" to eat my veggies, okra. Slimy not yummy at all and I haven't touched them since I left home as a young adult.

I tried an excellent local naturopath who was formerly widely acknowledged as one of our area's best internists.

She's quite an excellent diagnostician (she was the first to test my GAD 65 levels) so I tried her regimen of diet and vitamins.

The former was a pretty straight paleo affair with lots of grains and the latter cost $300-$400/mo. to maintain. I did it until she started wanting to run a lot of pretty wacky tests, etc.

The result was very, very small. Again, I saw no improvement until I learned about LCHF from several of you all at our former web site.

Star,

I've heard about the benefits of that lady fingers thingy. Never tried it though.
