hi. i'm in my late 50s and i am pre-diabetic but probably diabetic now. trying to start eating better and exercise. not doing the best job. parents never instilled healthy eating in us as kids so we grew up to be fat overeating adults with a crazy sweet tooth. i'm trying to get my life on track. but struggling with the no carbs/no sugar diet. dr put me on metformin a while back but i couldn't manage working with the amount of trips to the restroom in an 8 hr day so i sorta gave up. i also don't understand giving diabetes medicine to someone who is only pre-diabetic. i had some concerns about that. just thought i'd come in here and see if i can get any ideas to lower things without being completely miserable all the time.

We're happy to have you with us and share your story. The number of members who post here regularly has dwindled with time and the advent of social media, but our database is filled with wisdom from posts of 100s of diabetic individuals who have over the years managed to get a grip on their condition and have managed their blood glucose by themselves.

I would encourage you to browse through our Forum and read some of those posts and articles. A good starting point would be our Home page which can be accessed by clicking on our Logo AND the Forum Links located in the Right Panel.

BTW I do not believe in the term "pre-diabetes" and would rather use the term "glucose intolerant" or "metabolically challenged" and both of these are easily manageable with some minor lifestyle changes which are not hard to achieve.

Do visit often and post as much as you like. I am sure this will yield rich dividends for your health.

I am sure you will find many good ideas here on how to take control of your glucose intolerance. Please ask all the questions you may have. There is a lot of info here on the site and we can also refer you to some books to help also.

Again Welcome!! Looking forward to getting to know you!

Yes I was just looking at them. Since I've not received an actual diabetic diagnosis I have no meter or knowledge of how to use them.

For now I've been working on getting my diet into a little better place to at least start the weight loss process. I have spent a lifetime eating whatever I wanted basically plus lots of sweets and sugary drinks. Now I barely touch sugary drinks, I no longer keep any soda pop in the house. I've cut out a lot of bread and working on eliminating pasta for the most part. I got the stuff recommended for diabetics to make my own stuff with. I try to buy sugar free foods when I can. I try to avoid sugar free sweets except as a treat. I enjoy salad so I've been incorporating more of those into my diet because they help me lose weight. Plus drinking more water. I figure it's a start for now.

SKB, I wonder why your "Quote for the day" ends up in other posts?  I have seen this before.

It's a problem with the s/w. I have reported it.

I have removed it now, but the problem is that it gets removed from the Original post as well.
