Hi there - I recognize many of you from the other forum.

Was diagnosed in December of 2013 and have struggled mightily since then, even after finding out about LCHF.  More of a mental issue for me, getting over my anger about being diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic.

I've been struggling so much that my last A1c a few weeks ago was 11.5.  Thanks to the concern and gentle prodding from Wally, Barbara and a few others, I convinced my doctor to put me on insulin last week.  It's been amazing and I feel like a whole new person and have a whole new perspective on tackling my diabetes.

Happy to be here!

Kris

Hello Kris,

It's wonderful to have you here. Most of us are dropouts from the other forum, but we also have a few newbies who are unique to our forum.

I'm happy that you have been able to persuade your doctor to put you on insulin. High blood sugar needs to be controlled whatever the means available to one. An A1c of 11.5 is rather too high and I hope that your next blood panel will show a much smaller number.

Welcome, once again. Do feel your way around, and ask any questions that may arise. The layout of this forum might appear a bit different. As you will discover, feature wise, we are much better.

KRIS!  ~hug~  I'm so happy to find you here - it makes my day! I hope you'll find what you need here to help you make the transition, and I'm very pleased that your doc agreed to put you on insulin. I've had that talk with my doc, and so far we haven't come to agree on it, but I think it would be a good move for me too, even if only temporarily, until I can get my LCHF back under strict control. Part of my problem is that I don't cook as much anymore. Feeling like a whole new person sounds really great to me!
~lol~

Aw, thanks Shanny! And thanks SKB! ~wve~ I'm happy to be here too!

I had to really insist with my doctor, she's great, but just kept holding out hope I could manage with LCHF and exercise alone.  My 11.5 A1c quickly cured her of that notion.

I would do it if I were you (and wish I'd started long ago) - I'm only taking 8 units of Lantus right now and within a week my FBG has gone from the high 300's last week down to this morning of 70 (of course doing LCHF as well).  I'm still bouncing around a bit during the late morning, but I feel so much better.

I'm sorry to hear you're not cooking as much - I always enjoy your recipe posts.   ~bbq~

Thanks again for the lovely welcome!

Hi Kris and welcome to the new site :)  I'm glad your BG numbers are responding so well to insulin and that you are feeling better.

Welcom Kris.  I'm glad for you that your doctor listened to you and consented for the insulin.  It does make a difference in a positive way.  Hope you continue with the good progress.

I just don't have the stamina to cook like I used to (cooking, baking, canning, freezing - even when I had an outside job to go to. Dunno where that energy went, but 20 years later, I sure don't have it anymore!  :-\  As the old saying goes, 'my get-up-and-go, got-up-and-went!'), but there are a few things I can't do without, like today I have the old skillet piled high with crack slaw . . . this is one superlative dish and not available anywhere but home!  ;)  If you haven't tried it, you just gotta - even if you don't care for cooking!

I do think part of my problem when I first started trying LCHF was I got in a rut food-wise, so I've been taking the time to try new recipes.  In fact, I found your Breakfast Mix recipe and can wait to try it, just waiting on the WF syrup.

And yes!  I loved, loved, LOVED crack slaw when I tried it about 6 months ago.  I will do this again!  :)
