Family Dr failed to diagnose DKA

Some years ago, a 17 year old girl died in Scotland due to DKA. Her family physician, and another consulting doctor failed to recognize the symptoms and continued treating her for constipation ?

That is such a sad story.  Looks like the dr skated. So sad.

T-2 dx 2/2012 FBG 243 A1c 9.5%   A1c 6/12  5.7%.  A1c 4% 7/13 to 12/16.
12-16  5.1%.  6/18 5.3%.  6/19  5.7%.  6/20 5.7%.  7/21 5.2%.  8/22 5.5%. 7/23 6%. 7/24 6.8%.
Off meds 3/15, diet controlled.  Minimal exercise.

Truly this is such a sad thing to happen to the family. I wish doctors were more diligent in their duty.

There does seem to be a widespread reluctance to test for diabetes (let alone get the Type right), when it should be a standard part of every routine blood test battery.

I've noticed that the standard blood tests for ketones may show only moderate amounts even in full-blown DKA which means most modern docs won't treat it.

Who would know the first time around to insist on a GAD 65 antibody test?
