Which Sweetener

This month's downloads got me interested in this.

Which artificial sweetener do you use and why ?

Personally for everyday use (tea/coffee) I prefer sucralose over aspartame as it tends to push my BG higher. However, in preparation of homemade cookies or other goodies we use erythritol. It has the least influence on BG.

Sugar free chocolates in the markets use maltitol which is a known devil for causing gastric issues. If I exceed 2-3 small pieces, I'm sure to run to the loo sooner or later.

I use EZ-Sweetz liquid sucralose most of the time and it works for me.  A couple recipes I use for fat bombs I use powdered Splenda and I don't have a problem with that.  I really ignore all of the claims about how bad every artificial sweetener is, I don't use that much and it sure beats sugar.

EZ-Sweetz is my preference too, when I want sweetening, which is rarely. But we keep several kinds since BH mixes them for his coffee & stuff. Erythritol, stevia & saccharin come to mind - not sure what all else he has at his 'mixing station'!  ;)

I also go for Splenda. What it does to my BG, I don't know and never thought to check it. Maybe I should, No, I will.

After reading this I checked my box of SugarFree. It contains aspartame. Should I change ? Is this OK ?

My first question here is, should I go in for Splenda. I guess that is already answered by Mr. Roacky. I will buy some today and start testing myself. Frankly, this is advice not available at the doctor's. Thank you.

Splenda is perfectly fine in my opinion. Use it in place of sugar in tea / coffee if you use any.

E-Z Sweetz (which is liquid Splenda) is what I use in my coffee every morning.  I buy it from Netrition.com.  Granular splenda spikes my bg for some reason, but the liquid does not.

I have used a variety of sugar substitutes, including Spenda and Truvia.  I haven't used a liquid sweetener yet.  I didn't have any problems with either the Spenda or the Truvia, but now I mostly use Truvia.  My BG readings have been fairly well controlled - and when my numbers do go up, it's almost always because I've had too many carbs.
