Low thyroid causes Diabetes ?

A study found a link between hypothyroidism & insulin resistance & consequently diabetes. Though hypothyroidism is seen a lot among diabetics, I always thought it was the other way around. I've even read Dr B say so. Thoughts, anyone ?

Well, I developed a cyst on my thyroid way back in the mid-70s, and one lobe of the gland was removed. I was not prescribed a supplement until some 20 years later, and it was another five or six years before diabetes pinged on the radar. Not sure if that constitutes a connection or not. Darn slow to connect, if so!

Yes our personal experiences do guide our thought process. I found my TSH out of whack in the last couple of years, much after the big D rang my doorbell. I do take thyroxine but would love to try the desiccated thyroid hormones. Sadly, they are not sold here.

I developed hypothyroidism when I was 10 yrs old and I've taken thyroid medicine for most of my life.  The thyroid trouble came a longggg time before diabetes did.
