A recent study has shown that Metformin also helps with Autism disorders.
It's a mouse study, but holds promise ;

It's interesting that while Metformin has been in use for many years for treating insulin resistance they keep finding other benefits not expected.
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with LCHF diet. 
A1c 5.4%   8/1/2023
