The CDC has come out with a map of prevelance of Diabetes in The United States. As can be seen, Diabetes is largely predominant in the South East of the country. Maybe, our American members can throw more light on what are the underlying causes for this. Are the factors purely dietary in nature or is there more at play ?

It seems that the Medical Establishment still has no consensus on what causes Diabetes so it is hard to know.  In my case I have no idea why I ended up with D, no family history, but diet could very well have been a cause.  The map is interesting.  The South East of the USA could very well lead to a decision that diet is a major cause of D.  That area is also higher in obesity than many others and once again diet is a major factor.  Southern food is really good but I am afraid it may come with some problems.
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with LCHF diet.

I agree with Wally, the cause is still not really known, but diet is an issue.

That part of the country is the home of biscuits & gravy, bbq, and macaroni & cheese sides, etc.
HF, but not much LC there.

So then it is diet. Both obesity and diabetes have a strong link to diet in my opinion. I look back at my earlier weight (much of the extra has long gone) and deduce that if I ever went back to eating that way again, I'd gain all of my weight back and my BG would go through the roof, as fast as I could snap my fingers.
