This study of 2700 participants found that people with diabetes experience skin itching at higher rates than those without the condition. 11.3 % v/s 2.9 % to be precise.

I experience unusual itching quite often, but it's only on the palm of my left hand. Dunno why so specific, but it is what it is.  ~tnk~

I've also known since I was a child, that I prefer pain to itching. We got lots of mosquito bites in those days, and I would deliberately scratch mine until they bled, just to get rid of the itch.  ???

My itching is because of psoriasis and I don't know if diabetes is the reason I developed it but I believe it probably.  I started to notice the psoriasis before I was diagnosed with diabetes but then I stayed away from doctors believing "no news is good news" and avoiding the facts.  Diabetes and psoriasis probably started around the same time.  At one time it was over large portions of my body, probably around 30% but it has cleared up on most areas and really is only on my ankles.  The best thing I have been able to do is to keep the area moisturized and I found Cetaphil to work quite well but I am sure there are others that will do the same thing.

My mom had psoriasis and it mostly broke out on her elbows & knees. Apparently it isn't hereditary - none of us daughters have it.

I guess I have been lucky so far, I don't have any issues with itching. I hope I didn't just jinx myself!!

Me too. I'm happy I'm not a part of that 11 %. In my last posting in Saudi I did get a cut near my ankle which took more than 6 months to heal. At the time I didn't know about this way of controlling blood sugar, nor was I aware of the consequences of high sugar levels.
