The Thomas Jefferson University has found that blood levels of fructosamine are a much better marker of and more responsive to current BG levels. The study was conducted while trying to assess the markers for predicting post surgery complications in patients.

I don't think that such a test is available in a routine blood panel. Hope that it becomes available soon or better still as a home test.

I don't know if this is available as a standard test or if there is a special test for it. Will find out from my lab.

Note that the paper says A1c 7% = 292 mmol/L of fructosamine. So it should be way lower than that number, preferably below 250.

ETA : I checked the Tests Menu online with the lab and the test is available.
