This study on 306 individuals in the UK is being talked about a lot in the press today. Apparently, 45% participants achieved remission of diabetes just by weight loss.

The question that pops up in my mind is, define remission.

Good point skb! I really think my pcp believes my control of my diabetes is due to weight loss rather than the lc/hf way of eating. That would kind of explain why he won't tell his other diabetic patients about lc/hf.

Exactly! Remission back to pre-diabetic levels, or remission to some arbitrary level like 180mg.dl. or 200mg.dl. These studies are skewed, but their headlines are dubious.

But, it is the LCHF WoE that caused the weight loss. It is the easiest, safest & best way to lose weight & keep it off IMO. Why talk about the cart & not the horse.

Exactly skb! He praises the weight loss but won't acknowledge how I got there. Another reason I am seeking a new pcp.

Temporary remission might be more accurate. I've lost a lot of weight since being here and so I qualify to be in that 45%, but s few times that I've cheated, I've found my numbers in the red. So, sorry I don't buy it.

Yeah, remission needs to be defined. Also they attribute the fact that people are successful controlling their diabetes because of weight loss and ignore what their diet is.  We know that it is possible to control blood sugar with diet and often weight loss comes with that but it is the diet that is responsible.  Sometimes I just have to shake my head at some of these studies and wonder what kind of blinders they wear to ignore the obvious.
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with LCHF diet.

Burns my buns these professionals who refuse to acknowledge the role LCHF plays . . . they are danger to their patients and anyone else who believes their foolish deception.
