My son (27 yrs old) got a blood test done for some colic type of pain and his A1c showed up as 6.8. He was very alarmed and disturbed at that. IMO it was a lab error and a false positive, so we decided to conduct an OGTT on him for better understanding. Here's how it went.

08:20 we checked fasting and he was at [96], but the mere fact that he got up an hour earlier, showered, changed and drove down to the house leads me to believe that he must have been at [85] or so on waking up.
Then he had a cup of tea with sugar and went out to buy the Glucose as we don't have any. He had 75 gms of glucose mixed in water

09:10 [104] Before consuming the glucose
09:40 [162] At 30 minutes
10:10 [141] At 60 minutes
10:40 [142] At 90 minutes
11:10  [90] At 120 minutes.

What I see from the above is, at 30 minutes during the 1st phase response (that lasts for 45-60 minutes) the BG is still reacting to the sudden load. At 1 hour there is some correction from the 1st phase insulin response. At 1.5 hours it is still in the plateau phase. After that, the 2nd phase response kicks in and it is pretty good, bringing him back to below baseline at the 2 hour mark. IMO he has nothing to worry about for now, but should be cautious and forewarned.

If you have anything to add or have different observations, I would welcome your inputs.

Personally if it is possible to repeat these tests on several more days, and the results are about the same, then I might start being concerned.  The doctor I currently see says that it should be done at least 3 times before you start becomming concerned.  That is just my opinion and I am not a healthcare professional.

Yes, I intend to repeat the test after maybe a month. An OGTT should not be repeated too close to each other.
