Weight loss induces remission in 46% patients

A clinical trial recently showed that nearly half of individuals with type 2 diabetes achieved remission to a non-diabetic state after a weight-loss intervention delivered within six years of diagnosis. Now a new study eveals that this successful response to weight loss is associated with the early and sustained improvement in the functioning of pancreatic beta cells.

I actually have personal knowledge of someone intentionally gaining substantial weight sufficient to qualify for a stomach band in an effort to cure his diabetes.

Evidently, there's been enough success in achieving that result via such surgery to become something of a pathology in this case, at least. So far, it's worked as intended for this particular person.

The follow-up studies regarding recurrence should be interesting as those involved regain weight which is likely in many instances.

This is interesting but for me it just shows that we are all different.  I weighed 235 pounds at one time and at 145 pounds I never noticed any change in my diabetes.  On the other hand a change in diet made all of the difference.
