I've heard and read about the link between Vit D deficiency and diabetes so many times before. Here's another such study conducted recently,

Interesting, SKB. I've often wondered about the huge numbers of people living in areas of the globe that are lacking sunlight and often limited diets most of them having various forms of vitamin D deficiencies. I suspect that there's somehow much more that needs to be known about the substance including what appears to be its link to diabetes.

My personal experience is that vitamin levels are not necessarily influenced or even increased at all by supplements including the large-dose prescriptions. I hear similar anecdotal evidence from others living in my region.

After my stay in the hospital about a year and a half ago I have been taking supplements to balance my electrolytes.  One of the things I take every day is 5000 iu of vitamin D.  Vitamin D is used by the body in part to help maintain the proper level of calcium.  Interesting how much we depend on different things to keep healthy.  I also take calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium supplements  every day.  How much the Vitamin D adds i don't know but mu levels are all in the normal range so something is working.

When I started seeing a kidney doctor, he ran some tests on my vitamin levels and it turned out that my vit D3 level was severely dificient.  He prescribed 5,000 units of D3 for one year and then retested at that time.  He adjusted the doseage downward to 1,0000 units of D3.

Chris Masterjohn (Ph D) has done some extensive work on Vit D. According to him the normal levels have been set with some very flawed assumptions. No wonder that Vit D pills are probably the largest selling supplement in the world.

My level of vitD has always been low ever since I started regular blood work. At one point it came down to 9 ng/ml. Having known that only 5% of the UV-beta rays of the sun penetrate the earth's atmosphere between 1100 - 1400 hrs, I tried standing in the sun with about 60% body exposure for 3 months. But that brought up my levels to 14 ng/ml only. So I started supplementing with 5000 units a day. That brought up the vitD levels, but I gave up the supplement when I had problems with kidney stones.

I now believe that Vit D levels between 20-30 ng/ml are good enough, and the higher normal is only meant to assist sales of the supplement.

Have never been tested for levels of vitamin D, but I assure you I will never EVER adopt any treatment that includes higher risk of kidney stones. BTDT, and whatever your options, you don't wanna go there.  ~fno~
