Going on vacation

My son and I are going to Hawaii next week, and I'm nervous and excited!  Nervous about flying, excited about being in Hawaii.  Nervous about how I will manage LCHF on vacation.  We'll be staying in a hotel room that will have a mini fridge.  I've heard that there are little markets all over the place, so I'm planning on buying some HWC, cream cheese, cheese, lettuce, sliced deli meat, pickles and of course, macadamia nuts to have in the room.

If anyone has suggestions for how to stick to LCHF while away from home, I'm all ears.

Shanny

What a great time you'll have! ♥ ♥ ♥

Well, sticking with LCHF, when travelling is not so difficult. You have the negative list entrenched in your brain somewhere. Just avoid those foods. Your mini fridge is already well stocked. I'm sure you will do very well.

Have a blast, and enjoy yourself.

Yup. Fish & macademia nuts are the local produce. LCHFers need not worry in Hawai.
have a great time.

I grew up on O'ahu!  In fact, I lost 50 pounds on LCHF while I lived there.

Avocados are grown locally, and should be cheap and luscious.  If you're into spicy, you may also want to check out linguica, better known on the Islands as Portuguese sausage.  Portuguese sausage often appears in omelets and alongside scrambled eggs.  Kalua pork is pulled pork, and should never be sweetened.  Lau-lau is chicken or pork wrapped in spinach, then in ti-leaves, then steamed.  Perfectly LCHF!

CAUTION:  An island-style "fast food" plate lunch usually includes 1-2 large scoop sticky rice plus 1 scoop macaroni salad (even if the entree is spaghetti, in which case garlic bread is also customary).  Such establishments may be called "drive-ins," even if they're on an upper floor of a mall or office building.  If you feel adventurous, you may want to ask if you can get the entree only, no sides.  Back in the day, that was NOT an option, so I threw a lot of food away.

Thanks everyone and especially Shaylynne for the specific food ideas.  I love avocados and can't wait to try fresh Hawaiian avocados!

I'm back from my Hawaiian vacation.  Son and I had a great week in Oahu.  I bought a container of macadamia nuts for the hotel room and had a handful of those nearly every morning for breakfast.  I also bought a can of whipped cream to put in my coffee (there was no HWC for sale at the ABC store near the hotel).  Most days, I had one type of fish or another for dinner, or hamburger minus the bun.  I did indulge in cole slaw that had crushed pineapple, and I also had some french fries.  But overall, my readings were good and I was relieved to see that making good choices was pretty easy.
