Sleep & wound healing.

This study (abstract only) on mice concludes that "the diabetic mice with fragmented sleep needed about 13 days for their wounds to achieve 50 percent healing. By contrast, even with sleep interruptions, the wounds of normal-weight healthy mice reached the same milestone in about five days."

Isn't it already a given that diabetic's wounds heal slower? So less sleep makes it worse...*for mice*??...geeze!

Mine sure do. It takes them ages to heal completely and most times they leave a permanent scar.

So is it that wounds take longer because of :
1.  They are diabetic ?
2:  They are obese ?
3.  They have a sleep problem ?
How can you draw a conclusion when there are more than one problem ?

I am diabetic.  I am not obese and I sleep well.  My wounds heal quite nicely and the several surgeries I have had requiring stitches heal in usually a week when the stitches can be taken out.  I do keep my bg in tight control and it is always under 120 mg/dl.  I think that helps.

Right about the scarring too . . . I now have scars from the slightest injuries.
