95 this morning.

Tamagno - Do you 'reheat' your steel oats made by soaking overnight?  My husband likes steel oats as do I.  However steel oats don't like me as my numbers spike into the 300s when I indulge.  Hubby loves me and can eat them without any worries.

85 this morning.  Not much change weather wise but so far we haven't had the higher temps that are common in August.
Oatmeal of any kind is something I learned that I just can't tolerate.  When I was with Kaiser I sat through a "diabetes education" session that lasted for most of a day and the information that was given out was sadly worthless.  oatmeal, bread, as long as it was whole grain, fruit and anything that said "no added sugar" were touted as great for a diabetic along with the claim that you only need to test once a day and only occasionally after a meal.  When I first decided to take control of my bg and started testing after all meals I found out that a lot of the things I thought were OK were not.  Everyone is different though and if you can handle some of the things we tend to avoid it is a good thing.  More reason I think to test after a meal to know.

Boy of boy did we have a rip roaring thunderstorm last evening!! Lots of lightning and huge booms of thunder, right overhead. I see across the irrigation ditch, that a huge part of my neighbor's tree came down. At least it was pouring rain the whole time so no dry strikes. Only good thing I can say about it...

Yeah, count me in the no can do oatmeal crowd too. As much as I used to love it, it just spikes me way too much.

Of course, the amount of oatmeal I eat is quite small - likely no more than a heaping tablespoon a day. It does raise glucose, but I bolus for it.

Grammabear, I like to put my oatmeal in my morning coffee so it gets heated that way. I guess you could heat it in a microwave with perhaps some butter for moisture or maybe just a little cream (it's already been soaking up cream).

Was grilling last night when a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain rolled through. I got my ribs mostly cooked through, but had to finish them on the stove. Regardless, I was soaked by the time I got them in. There was so much wind that an umbrella would have been useless.

I didn't sleep worth two cents last night, guess I'm worried about grandson's recovery.  Yesterday he was terribly nauseated although he is not eating solid food.  Hope they can help him feel better though.

Tamagno - Thanks for the tip on overnight oatmeal.  Hubby does love it and wishes it didn't take so long to cook the steel oats.

102 this morning.  Have a 10 pound Sirloin Roast to put on the Traeger today and let it smoke for most of the day.  Hoping it comes out as good as I think it should.

Tamagno, I think that a tablespoon of oats would be pretty easy to deal with, portions do matter.  I just remember eating a bowl of cooked oatmeal and seeing the results.  I don't think I would be happy with only a tablespoon full.  I used to think that anyone using insulin had it easy because you just ate what you want and then bolus for it.  I know someone who's Doctor told him just that.  Eat anything you want and just cover it with insulin.  Also he doesn't bother to test, just goes by how he feels.  It was on the forum that I learned that it is not that easy to "just cover it with insulin".

Grammabear, can't blame you for being worried but hope that it gets better soon.

Grammabear, it's often forgotten how serious illness affects families and friends; the burdens borne by all of you with Paul are huge with concomitant burdens - my prayers continue.

In keeping with my own newly minted philosophy of "no more" when it comes to medicine continue and I'm going today to a surgeon about having my port removed. One more thing off the list.

115 this morning.

I had a Dr once (who diagnosed me) that indeed told me I could eat absolutely anything I wanted BUT cover it with insulin.  Then he sent me to a dietitian who told me that I should be eating 45-60 carbohydrates with each of three meals.  In addition to that I could have 15-30 carbohydrates for snacks between meals.  This IS the kind of "stupidity" that I got told because I am Type 1 on insulin.  These dietitians have absolutely no clue how life really is for those of us who use insulin.

Tamagno - Is it a big procedure to have a port removed?  My best wishes for you.

Grandson is just now trying to eat something like yogurt or plain toast.  He still experiences nausea, but told his parents that he feels a little better than the day before.  Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers on his behalf.  Very much appreciated.

89 this morning.  It is supposed to be heading to 109° today and I think it will get there as it was 79° at 5:30 AM.
I really think that it should be a requirement that a diabetes educator be a diabetic.  The so called education is just parroted from what they were taught with no real understanding of how it works in the real world.  It wasn't until I did my own research and learned from other diabetics on forums like this that I really learned how to control my blood sugar.

Grammabear, glad to hear there is some improvement in your grandson. I will continue my prayers and good thoughts for all of you.

It has been warm, mid to high 80's here the last couple of days. Too uncomfortable for me to be outside but I have the windows/shades/fans drill down so inside stays tolerable.

Grammabear, sounds like good news regarding your grandson. Praying it continues!

Getting my port out is a simple and quick procedure, although it's done in the operating room as there's risk of infection if care's not taken. It'll be done next Tuesday. I'm missing the infusions I used to get for Stiff Man Syndrome (lots of pain plus constant clumsiness and falls), but they're far too expensive and never covered adequately by insurance at over $50,000/each. I'll manage without...

109 this morning.

My blood glucose seems to be up and down a lot more lately.  I need to be more diligent in my meal choices.

Grandson will have a 'permanent' shunt put in today, not sure why it is being done now, but have to trust that the Drs know what they're doing (which is not easy for me).  My family is ever so grateful for all the prayers and positive thoughts being sent for grandson.

Tamagno - I will also pray for your port removal procedure that it will go smoothly.  No doubt you have already researched any alternative treatment for the stiff man syndrome.  Just wonder if there is anything else than could possibly help you?

84 this morning.  Our high yesterday was 107° and should be around the same today.  Humidity is supposed to be higher and there are clouds right now so that may be the case.  Thanks for the refrigeration A/C unit is will stay nice in the house.  I plan on doing some shopping later today and the poor car can really get hot inside sitting in the parking lot.  The steering wheel gets so hot it is almost impossible to hold on to it until the A/C cools things down.
Tamagno, it is amazing sometimes what is available to deal with some medical situations but it is also amazing how much it can sometimes cost.  It is sad that sometimes there is a procedure or medication that is available to deal with a situation but it is just too expensive.  Hope you are able to deal with the problem.
Grammabear, sometimes we just have to put our faith in the doctors that they do indeed know what they are doing.  I think in this case the specialist in charge do indeed know what is needed and hope for a good result from their effort.
