Quote from: bigskygal on April 06, 2019, 01:39:34 PMThanks everyone. That is odd Wally. Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure how the Onc knows this is cancer, he didn't do a biopsy. From what I have read online most (75%) of these parotid tumors are benign, so I am trying not to stress about cancer until pathology actually shows it.

sky, I use a Mac.I did find photo booth now I need to figure out how to use it.

I'm sure things will turn out well. Doctors have been known to make silly statements at times.

Mac comes with a built-in app known as Preview. I found an article that may be helpful.

>50 this morning...

Woke up late to low glucose so I'm off to a weird start.

Let's all have no more cancer out there! Praying this one turns out benign, BigSkyGal!

My chest freezer is fairly small at 7 cubic feet and I managed to get at least meats crammed into my refrigerator freezer. Ran out first thing yesterday morning to Home Depot and bought a new one that's coming this Wednesday. Got home and found water from the old one leaking all over so had to get that dumped out and cleaned up - quite a mess and very hard, but done.

Now I've just got to get my glucose straightened out...

Tamagno - clearing and cleaning a freezer can be an awful chore.  It seemed to take us all day when our freezer decided to quit working.  Hope your new one is just exactly what you need.

We live in a rural area and yesterday someone threw out their car window a 'lit' cigarette and started a grass fire.  One of the neighbors had to call the fire department because the grass is so dry that the fire started to spread.  The fire department came and very quickly put out the fire.  All people concerned are safe and we were glad the fire is out. :)

I've been thinking about what my Oncologist said about my tumor being cancerous. The only ones he sees are ones that are because a person with a benign one has no need for an oncologist. But he could have shared the statistics about how many are benign rather than jumping to the worst scenario.

Seems the freezer affair did me in and most all yesterday was lost to naps. Thankfully, I did get it together enough to grill my leg of lamb for dinner - delicious!

Still not quite warm enough to be out on the deck as much as I'd like, but we're getting there slowly. Unless something weird happens we should be done with snow and ice although this is New England and it's been known to happen in April.

82 this morning.

It is supposed to be 70 today and then by Wednesday, down into the 40s or 50s.  There is even snow in the forecast for mid week.

I woke yesterday with another UTI, the 2nd in less than one week.  I'm going to try and get an appointment with a Urologist to see if I can learn why these infections keep coming back.

87 this morning.  Well, we got up to 83° yesterday and should be around the same today but windy.  Apparently there is a front coming through tomorrow and the temps will drop down to the low 70s with a chance of rain Friday.
Barbara, when my primary doctor at the time noticed the lump she referred me to an Ear, nose and throat specialist and he diagnosed it as a tumor of the parotid.  He was the first to tell me that they were rarely cancerous but he did not do the surgery on these.  He referred me to another doctor that specialized in head and neck surgery and he also told me that they were rarely cancerous so I was not at all concerned.  I suspect that you are right that the oncologist normally sees people that have been diagnosed with cancer first.

Thanks Wally. I got my appointment today for the Ear, Nose & Throat dr it is on the 18th, so will go from there re the surgery.

Grammabear, so sorry you are having such a tough time with all the UTIs. Hope you can get some relief soon.

It got up to 51° today with light drizzle on and off all day. Overnight prediction is 34°. Snow in the forecast for Wed and Thur. le sigh...

Constant UTIs are awful. My GP told me that they're never entirely eradicated and likely to recur with regular high glucose, but recommended using cranberry supplement tablets (he explained the mechanism at play in the gut, but I've forgotten the details). Since we can't drink cranberry juice, it's a good alternative.

Lost much of yesterday once more to exhaustion, but am thinking today will be better...

Tamagno - Do you happen to recall the dose advice given you by your doctor in regard to cranberry capsules?  Or do you recommend a particular brand as being a good one?  It seems on the internet that there are too many brands to count when it comes to cranberry capsules.  I do wish I could have relief.

Barbara - Wishing you the best when you see your doctor.

Thanks Grammabear! It is just hurry up and wait at this point.

It has been raining all day and forecast is for all evening too. High 45° overnight predicted 34° with chance of snow. Snow still in forecast for tomorrow but not Thursday any more. I actually wouldn't mind some snow tomorrow. My road is a muddy mess and if it snows the mail lady will probably be OK with delivering my Amazon order

To be honest, Grammabear, my wife just got something that looked to have the "purest" ingredients and I haven't given thought to the exact amount or brand - doesn't seem the sort of thing that's terribly critical and I doubt you can do damage if you get too high a dosage.

This week so far is lost to doctors, the freezer fiasco and the like. I've an appointment with a new neurologist this morning, plus the new freezer is coming and Friday a CAT scan. Looking forward to next week, warmer weather and mostly some good peace and quiet around here.

Thank you Tamagno for the info on cranberry capsules.  I will do a bit of looking probably on Amazon.  I just wish the Dr. would call and tell me what he thinks is causing these infections.  Tired of waiting and waiting.

90 this morning.  Temp dropped a lot yesterday as predicted with a high of 72° and really windy with winds of 20-25 MPH and gusts to 35 MPH.
I decided to bite the bullet and go to the DMV to get a new drivers license with my new address on it.  It has been a year and a half since I moved and I gave my new address to the DMV on line when I moved but my DL is the only picture ID I have so I thought it should have my correct address on it.  At the same time I got the documents together I needed to get it as a "real ID" which is needed now to fly anywhere in the country.  My license didn't expire until next year but I was able to renew it now and the new license will be good for 5 years.  Typical long wait but I am glad to get it done.
Grammabear, from what I have found it appears that there are differing opinions on whether cranberry helps with UTIs but the consensus seems to believe that the capsules are the most likely to help.  Drinking the juice does not have enough of the ingredient that may help.  The other thing is that it may help prevent a UTI but it will not help if you already have it.  From that I would say that Tamagno is right in that you should just look for the capsule that looks to be the purest.  Dosage is also something no one knows for sure but again it is probably hard to over dose.
