74 this morning.

Wally, the noted comedienne, Joan Rivers built a house up here some years back. While she attempted going around incognito, it was well known that she frequented a little, local road side hot dog stand regularly. Perhaps there's something to a diet heavy on hot dogs...

Here, it's just plain cold with snow and temperatures in the negative numbers due for the weekend. Today I'll just be making sure I've got groceries (hot dogs?) on hand so I don't have to be going out.

114 this morning.

We have a winter storm warning for this afternoon into tomorrow mid day with 5-8 inches of the white stuff and winds 30-40 mph.  We're going to make a run to the grocery store this morning and hopefully come back home in one piece before the storm hits.

101 this morning.  Well, the rain is out of here and the storms are heading East so Barbara, Tamagno and Grammabear, coming your way.  We ended up with a total of 1.65 inches for the 6 days so pretty good for an area that has an annual rainfall of 4.25 inches a year.  Mammoth Ski Area in the Sierras got 40 inches of snow over this storm and now is at 120 inches on the upper slopes.
Tamagno, I don't know if hot dogs are a good choice for everyone but it sure seems that they don't bother a lot of people.  Andy Griffith was also a great hot dog fan.  It's just interesting because we hear such horror stories about hot dogs and all processed meat.

112 this partly sunny morning, 92 at bedtime last night.

Boy, the MRI took a long time! 30-45 minutes! Don't remember past ones taking that long. I see the Oncologist this afternoon for the results. I'm a bit nervous, but heartened by a comment the Technician made. I told her I recently had both a CT scan and ultrasound and both came out clear. She said if the ultrasound was clear/no big problem, the MRI usually is too. She said she didn't understand why drs didn't trust them more. I am taking the fact that the sun is shining for the first time in about a week as a good omen.

Mild temps here still, snow predicted for Sunday. Had a bit over an inch of new snow overnight last night.

Well, I do not have liver cancer despite having a blood marker that says I do! My AFP tumor marker in Dec was 12.2 ng/mL normal range is 0.0 -8.3 ng/mL.

What I do have is some inflammation. Oncologist wants me to see a gastroenterologist to figure out what is going on and to have another MRI in 6 months  :( I did not like the MRI! Oh and the Onc said the MRI is far superior to an ultrasound for seeing the liver.

I don't feel bad or have any pain. My appetite is good and all bodily functions normal (sorry TMI).I think I am just abnormal in some readings...

That's great news, BigSkyGal! I sure wish you could see my gastroenterologist (who's also my PCP); he's one of the last docs who actually thinks beyond tests, takes time and doesn't push meds or tests. Well, he can't be the only one, and there's surely some similar specialist in your area. By the way, my oncologist also wants regular MRIs which I'm told are superior for thoracic matters. It's tiresome, but better to know, I guess.

White stuff due here this afternoon as well. We've a brunch date at friends house at 11:30, but figure we'll be home before the snow starts up.

Wally, I've nothing at all against "processed" meats and eat any that seem appealing - just can't do the bread thing at all, so I'll skip the buns for my hot dogs. One thing I miss about living in Germany is their amazing selections of sausages, etc. and many other meats we just can't get here. They've got some of the best bacon on the planet...

96 this morning.

We have lots of the white stuff on the ground this morning and bitterly cold winds around 30-35 mph.  Not a nice day to be outside at all.

bigskygal - Happy to hear your good news regarding your MRI.  I hope you continue to feel well even after all these doctor appts.  You have to be in good shape to see your anticipated new grand baby.

96 this morning.  Another sunny nice day here and heading to about 63°.  No rain in sight for the next few days.
Barbara, that sounds like good news.  When my blood tests showed my liver enzymes higher than normal my PCP referred me to my Gastroenterologist and he was happy with the ultrasound.  He felt there was no problem.  Because of my heart valve I can't have an MRI.  The valve is enclosed in a metal sheath like a stent and that is how it is placed.  Apparently the MRI causes it to heat up enough to cause damage so an MRI is out.
Tamagno, I don't have anything against processed meats either.  I do buy low carb hot dog and hamburger buns from Netrition and once in a while I seem to do OK with them.  They are kind of pricy though compared to regular buns.

113 this foggy morning, 94 at bedtime last night.

Thanks everyone for the input. In my heart of hearts, I just knew I didn't have liver cancer, but it was a relief to hear it from the oncologist's mouth. I did some googling on AFP tumor marker and according to Rochester.edu normal is less than 10 ng/mL and greater than 500 ng/mL could be a sign of liver tumor. Another site, I think webmd put the high number st over 200 ng/mL, so I am a far cry from either of those numbers with a result of 12.2 ng/mL!

Fortunately I know the gastroenterologist they are getting me an appt with. He has done my last 2 colonoscopies. He is a great guy! Just waiting to hear when he can fit me in.

Tamagno, I got some paleo bacon at the market yesterday. No sugar used in cure. It is really fatty and yummy. Also picked up a couple of sausages, but put them in the freezer for now.

240 this morning.

As sometimes happens, I left my basal rate too low last night - paying for it this morning.

Our snow looks like just a few inches so far. Frankly, I'm sick of New England weather and culture. Just found out yesterday we've got the third highest electric rates in the country. Time for me to throw up a yurt someplace out west...

We got 7.5 inches of snow yesterday and one of our neighbors came with his snow blower and cleaned our driveway.  It saved my husband a whole heap of shoveling for which he was most grateful.

84 this morning.  I don't mean to rub it in but, we were at 64° yesterday and heading to 65° today.  I know they have been naming hurricanes for many years but I don't know when they started naming winter storms.  The current storm " Harper"   has been causing havoc as it moves East and New England is going to feel the brunt of it today.   ~shvr~
Tamagno, every place has it's problems but I could not deal with the winters you have to.  I'll take the heat over the cold any day.

110 this lightly snowing morning, 96 at bedtime last night.

It got up to 40°F yesterday, nights are mild in the mid 20's. It is supposed to snow most of the morning turning to rain mid afternoon. The snow is very light, barely 1/2 inch so far. Snow in forecast for Monday and Wednesday. So far, I don't have to go anywhere so I am fine with snow...

Well, just now it's -2 out with predicted high of 5 and wind chills down to -34. Thankfully, our snow wasn't much, but the 3" we had was most all sleet. Unfortunately, our water table is so high that it's most all frozen through and tree root systems become unstable making the risk of falling trees and branches high which will make us prone to power outages. So far, so good, thank God!

Well, even if we lose power, I've still got the wood stoves, and a good cast iron Dutch oven I can put in a fire to heat food. Of course, I'll be staying in except to bring in wood. I expect it'll be a day to have both my wood stoves running so whatever happens, we'll be fine.
