What does that mean that external data from the current likes system will be lost? Does that mean likes on previous posts will be lost? I guess I don't understand...there are so few of us here, sadly, we know who likes the posts... is this a big problem?  Sorry if I am missing the point...

We currently use SMF 2.0.15 which does not have an inbuilt Likes system, so we use a plug-in for the purpose.
The new SMF 2.1 has it inbuilt. Will it import the existing Likes from the old table, I'm not so sure.
Apart from the Likes, there are many other features here that are because of Modifications (plug-ins). Some, we can very well do without, some not. The authors of these plug-ins will need to rewrite their modules for the new version. Sadly, some of them are not supporting their modules anymore.
We would need to get used to the new version and it will take some time. I'll look into it when I have some free time.

skb, I and I am sure we all do really appreciate the work you do to keep us up and running. I would be really sad to lose contact with all of you dear folks so I can easily put up with any learning curve needed to get the upgrade done.

Like I said, some features may change, mostly the feature location and the forum layout. I will try get a link to some forum that uses the new version so you can have a look.

In preparation, I've started to remove some of the installed packages. I'm specifically worried about The BG Tracker. i got it developed from outside and paid money for it, and now the guy is not responding to my emails. He is in Hungary. I hope I can establish contact.

It looks Ok to me.  It reminds me of another forum I have seen but I don't remember which one.  I stopped using the BG tracker because, well, I am lazy.  My Contour Next One meter downloads my readings to an app on my phone and I can print a copy so easy peasy for a lazy person.
It looks like it keeps a record of posts but the likes go away.  Too bad but not a major thing.  Navigation should be pretty easy.

Looks OK to me too. When I looked the bg tracker was there. Is that good news? I do use it, but I could get by without it if it comes to that...

That's because clicking the BG Tacker button brings you back to this site.
