@Wally - just for what it is worth, a year ago I also had electrolyte problems.  The cause of mine turned out to be one of two diuretic medications I was taking.  The nephrologist removed that medication and my levels have been acceptable since then.
That is interesting as I was taking Hydrochlorothiazide and have for years but my Doctor has just stopped it because she believes it may be causing problems.  Never had a problem with it before but then things do change.

Hydrochlorothiazide is also the drug my kidney doctor removed from my list of medications.  My blood sodium level fell to 121 and I felt like rubbish.  I ended up in the hospital (for observation I was told) where hydrochlorothiazide was removed.  My blood pressure actually improved and thus far there has been no mention of resuming that medication.  I continue to take spironolactone as a diuretic.  I never had many problems with hydrochlorothiazide however low blood sodium has bothered for nearly all the time I took it.  No one, until the kidney doctor mentioned it, ever considered removing the medication.

Thanks Wally!  It is an outdoor ceremony and it will go on, rain or not.  Guess I had better add my umbrella to my suitcase!

Please correct me if I am wrong, DD = Darling Daughter ? The abreviations page doesn't have this. Well, wish you and DD all the very best.

AJ has been running numbers below 100 for the past few days. Hope this situation stays much longer.

252 this morning (it's the chemo).

Do have a safe trip, Barb, and a joyous wedding!

This electrolyte affair is interesting. I had a similar problem with another hypertensive and my sodium is also low. Actually, having been on pretty strict lchf for years my BP is always great at this point.

I'm now halfway through chemo/radiation. I'm doing okay outside of the usual side effects and still losing weight despite an extra 1,500 calories/day on the feeding tube which runs always when I'm at home. Can't tell if the cancer is shrinking yet or not.

So, I'll be done with this in early December and then have a break of about a month before they do the esophagectomy.

Not too bad!

Kathy, my wife's poker playing is low-hanging fruit - she doesn't count cards. I let her win enough to keep her on a limited reinforcement schedule. Actually, I think she lets me win as well. Okay, so truth be told my Mom used to always cheat at poker. Remind me to never go to a casino.

104 this morning.  Must adjust my basal rates again as along about 4 a.m. I could see a steep downward trend on my cgm to about 50.

I could never be a poker player as I don't have a very good "poker face".

I realize the situations are not the same, but my grandson was also losing weight steadily.  And for a 16 yr old that is most unusual.  He was on his feeding tube for a long time before he started gaining slowly.  He still is not at the weight his doctor would like for him, but he is making good progress.  John, I wish the same progress for you....slow but steady.

@grammaB - I wish your DD and her intended the very best.  Perhaps you could share a picture of the ceremony if that is allowed.

94 (5.21) this morning.  A chilly 23° (-5.6°C) this morning so the weather Gurus were right on predicting cooler weather.  Daytime highs will be around the mid 50's so more Fall like weather.
My visit with the Endo yesterday was interesting.  I like him and he was able to explain things quite well.  The drug used in the Hospital to bring Calcium down does it quickly, and it did, but it takes about a month for it to leave the body and that is why things are still unsettled.  I have an appointment in a month with him to further check for just what was causing the problem.
Heading to the Dentist this morning to get the crown installed that I had to postpone when I was in the Hospital.

GrammaBear? What was the diagnosis for your grandson, and what other treatment are they doing for him?

Shanny

I had a weird electrolyte imbalance a few years ago myself . . . my calcium spiked. It stayed up quite awhile, but by the time my doc got me referred to an endo & I got in to see him, it went down by itself. No way of knowing what the heck was going on.

But I continue taking HCTZ for prevention of kidney stones - but only 25mg. What is the dosage you were taking, Wally?

walkerwally1

I was only taking 12.5mg at the time.  While it may not have been helping I don't think it had anything to do with my current problem.  My Calcium was so high my Doctor said if I had waited another day before going to emergency I could have died.  Going for a PET Scan tomorrow.  Hopefully there will be enough info soon that it will lead to the cause so it can be prevented in the future.  I don't want to go through that again.

Still at 101. Not very far from a 99, but.

If you've ever taken Lasix, HCTZ seems like small potatoes compared to that - Lasix really wrings you out! But still, side effects can't be ignored.
