Hi Maggie,

Did you try the A1c converter at the top right. It gives 250 as your estimated average blood sugar. That means, it is easy to assume your total variance may lie between 200 & 300. Looks like, you are going to need more than just pills to bring your sugars into control. The first step would be dietary carbohydrate restriction. It has worked for all of us, why won't it work for you ?
I get depressed and eat all the wrong things so I dont mean it wont work I just mean I have a hard time. My doctor raised my glimepiride and that made a little bit of difference in my fasting test. One time it was down in the 150's so maybe I can get there little by little. I wouldnt want to have to take shots.

I assume you mean insulin when you say 'shots'. Well, you are headed that way, if you continue to "eat all the wrong things". As discussed on many threads, the glimepiride only extracts more insulin from the pancreas, thereby exerting more stress on the organ. Since our pancreas are already compromised, it's always better to give them rest and eat in a way to have your BG raised minimally. Relying on this drug will only mean that one day the pancreas will completely give up and then you will left with no option but to inject exogenous insulin, which BTW is far better/safer than the drug that you mention

I often feel the same way Maggie.  I really wanted to try to control this without meds, and my doctor agreed to let me try, but I am struggling.  Then I get depressed and eat the wrong things.

189 this morning.  :(

Maggie

Mine was 159 today, but I forgot and ate when I first got up and then remembered to test a few hours later. I am a real mess.

I was at 120 today. Oh, the price we pay for a little celebration.

Wish you a fast recovery Skb. My partner was 102 today morning. After which we did an hour of exercise. Hope this will be a permanent lifestyle. I'm so happy. ~bnc~

I was at 90 today. That makes me really happy. Must be the one hours of walking that I've introduced in my lifestyle.  >:(
Diabetic ?

240 this morning.

Well, highs are higher the last few days. Could be anything from stress to pain, the IVIG, another UTI or all of them. I'll get my infectious disease specialist to order a urinalysis today so I can at find out about that one.

I do love this time of year! Living in the woods as I do I hear the birds rise with the sun and wake me with their many songs. The female robins (also squirrels) appear to have had a good winter as they're all very big and fat. As usual, one nests in a spotlight over the rear door. Looks like she's already on her second batch of chicks if that's possible. The sky out over the forest is full of eagles, hawks and buzzards. I guess they've also plenty of food. As long as mountain lions, bears, beavers and wolves stay away, all is well!

You have such a gift, John . . . your description of life in the woods is right on. As we drove home from town yesterday in the rain, the tree limbs were hanging so low with their rain-laden leaves, it made a complete canopy over our (one-lane gravel) road & I remarked it was like living in the rain forest. So beautiful! About that time three young deer appeared down the road, so we stopped until they got where they were going.

And the raptors! My goodness! One evening awhile back an owl took off just ahead of our car & flew so low I was afraid I'd hit him, even though I slowed down so much. Yesterday it was a hawk. I understand the wild turkeys flying low, because they aren't really the soaring kind of flyers, but why these others?!  :o

Our little Bewick wrens are happily ensconced on the porch again as they have all these years, and we have barn swallows this year too. Best of all, we still have our wee bats monitoring the airspace over the river each evening, and although our bat expert has found evidence of WNS in our cave this year for the first time, our small colony is still active.

We're having to tear out a huge clump of honeysuckle vine because it's been invaded by brambles, so the cardinals won't be happy with us for disturbing their little village, but I expect they'll move to another cozy spot - an enormous yew bush which has overgrown the sidewalk at the side of the house. I was just as happy to sacrifice the walk, because it wasn't the safest route to the door - no railings for us old folks!  :P

Maggie

Mine was 191 today. I ate a beef and bean burrito for supper last night, so I guess that will be off the menu now.  :'(

95 (5.26) this morning.  Well, we did get rain yesterday, started with hail and then came down hard for all of about 10 Min. and that was it.  A grand total of .01" !  Well, I can't argue, it was rain.   :)
@Tamagno, I agree, one of the best things about living in the "boonies" is the wildlife.  It makes it worth having to drive a distance for everything.  It makes people who live in town wonder " how can you put up with driving so far" but there is no traffic and that makes the drive enjoyable.  Spring is great because the creatures are all coming out and busy at gathering food and raising little ones.
