90 this morning.  We didn't quite get to the predicted high yesterday but still not bad at 64° and supposed to be heading to 69° today and tomorrow then dropping about 10° Wednesday.  It is supposed to get to 80° in the Los Angeles area today !  Pretty hot for the first day of Winter.  Today is the winter solstice for the Northern Hemi and the shortest day of the year but on the bright side the days will start getting longer now.
The Blink outdoor camera is designed to be turned on by movement and runs a 30 second clip unless movement continues.  This is to prolong the battery life and it gives me what I am looking for.  One of the things I was looking for was a battery powered camera so I didn't have to plug it in.  The hub that controls it is indoors and plugs in to the house current.  That connects to the camera wirelessly and to my home network.  If it turns on Alexa says there is movement and I can see it on my Echo Show or my phone.  If I want to see something when the camera is off I can activate it from my phone.
Grammabear, you can mount this camera anywhere outside, on the house, on a pole, on a tree, etc, but it needs to connect to the hub that is indoors so the wireless signal has to get to it.  I don't know how good wireless signal passes through brick but it may need to be near a window or something.  We have other cameras that are wired and on all of the time, it is just a matter of running the wiring from the cameras to the recorder inside and for this application I wanted to avoid that.

Snap Grammabear! 120 here too this rainy morning.

It only got to 42° yesterday, today's forecast is 48°/30°. It is only 39° right now so I kind of doubt it will get that warm.

I was going to go out to shop today but my road is full of mud puddles as it rained most of the night. I won't even take the garbage to the end of the road. Maybe tomorrow or Wednesday...

118 today morning.

The year is drawing to an end and we all hope for a better 2021. In 2020 life came to a standstill. What are your Christmas plans ? We have a night curfew in place from 11-6 to avoid the party scenes.

I'm also glad your sister is doing well, Sweetie!

Christmas here will be quiet, SKB. I expect my wife will be talking to a few people via FaceTime, but that's about it. We can't get out to church this year, unfortunately.

Grammabear, night vision with these cameras isn't terribly great, at least with mine which does not have dedicated night vision technology. If it's a full moon, I can see, but not much otherwise. Obviously, my indoor camera looks out through glass and just reflects back on itself - that would be true even if it had specialized night vision. There are ways around all that, but I've not yet experimented with them.

Wally, battery life on my outdoor camera so far has been terrific and it lasts at least three months. I don't know yet if that will stay true in cold weather.

Christmas here will be a meal together with our grown sons and families, exchange of gifts and then a evening together maybe catching up on recent events.

Sweety - So glad your sister is progressing well.  Wishing your Maam the very best and sending her positive vibes too.

98 this morning.  We got down to 37° in the early morning but at 6:00 AM we were at 59° which was a surprise.  I checked the other weather stations around me on Weather Underground and they were all at 59° to 60° also so it appears right.  It is supposed to get to 68° today and then drop about 10° tomorrow.
Christmas for me this year will be home alone.  My BIL is going to his place in Arizona and get together with his family and my Brother is in Washington State and I am not going to travel but I am OK with that.
Tamagno, the Blink is advertised to have a battery life of 2 years but that depends of course on how often it is tripped to record.  It just takes two AA batteries and lithium are recommended.   That is also what my weather station uses and I change them once a year.  The lithium batteries handle the cold better and last longer than the alkaline.

99 this cloudy morning.

Yesterday's high was 40°, today's forecast is 35°/22° with occasional snow showers.

Christmas here will be the same as always, just me. I expect a lot of FaceTiming will happen though. I haven't decided if I will make chicken thigh or turkey thigh.

Yes, I guess all festivities and events are going to be curtailed. There is a lot of tension about news coming in from the UK about this new strain. 20 people arriving from the UK have tested +ve but so far the new strain has not made its way into India or so we believe.

Yes, I have been reading about the new strain. It is worrisome. Our Governor-elect says he is going to remove the mandatory mask order. You can wear them voluntarily. What the he!! is he thinking, cases have been soaring here! He says Montanans have the right to make their own health choices...Carp... they are only thinking about themselves not others. I am going to be even more afraid to go out once that happens!

I'm off to see my neurologist this morning; something I really don't want to do but couldn't think of a good reason to postpone yet again, so I decided to just get it done.

Besides everything else, being in a car just trashes the fracture I've got in my lower back, and it's about an hour drive to his office. I need to get that fracture cemented but I need to get in to see a spine specialist which I've been resisting. First of the year I'd best get onto that.

Hopefully, the rest of my day goes a bit smoother. At least I'm not expecting any ugly surprises from my neurologist.

I don't understand the concept of 'voluntarily' wearing a mask when their are cases of Covid running rampant in some areas.  I guess everyone has their own opinions.

Christmas this year will certainly be different.  I hope all have a peaceful and enjoyable day.  Merry Christmas to all.

102 this morning.  We got to a nice 69° yesterday but it is supposed to be about 10° cooler today.  There may be a chance of rain here on Monday so that would be a nice treat.
California is having a real bad time with new cases and Kern County where I live is one of the worse counties in the state.  The biggest part of that is on the other side of the mountains in the more populated areas but we are seeing a much larger new case count than ever before.  There is not a state or county mask mandate here but most businesses require a mask to enter and people seem to be good at following that.  I have to do some grocery shopping today and I don't have a problem with that.

113 this sunny morning.

32° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 36°/16°. Dusting of snow overnight. It was 20° when I got up. At least the road will be frozen so I won't have to worry when I go out. I have 6 stops on my errand run today. Not looking forward to it but it has to be done.

Yeah, I'm scratching my head about this mask thing. Cases here are skyrocketing too and with new mutation that makes it easier to spread, why lessen precautions? Makes no sense. We can "opt" to voluntarily wear a mask, but it is not mandated. On my run today I am going to ask at the places Im frequent if they are going to continue their mask requirements. I sure hope they do.
