Yeah, I am amazed at how small an item I have been able to pick up with the grabber but for me it is just how it will be from now on.  I don't know what model you have but mine also has a magnet on the end so anything metal snaps to it, well, anything that is attractive to a magnet but it can be handy.  Since I am always taking my walker with me the grabber has a clip that holds it to the walker so it is always with me.

My grabber is old...I got it after my mastectomy in 2013. It has rubber tips diameter somewhere between diameter of a dime and nickel.I think more designed for getting cans/jars etc off high shelves. I guess I will have to check them out on Amazon, magnetic tips sound helpful. Thanks for sharing!

This is the "hip kit" that I bought when I broke my hip that was recommended by my PT tech when I was recovering.

Hip kit link

The 7 piece kit doesn't offer anything worth getting over the 5 piece kit.  The sponge thing is pretty worthless but it is part of the kit.

The grabber was one thing she really was a fan of and it has worked well for me.  The other items may or may not be interesting to you but they may be helpful.  The thing at the bottom is to put socks on and it works really well if you can't bend over far enough.  You just slide a sock over the plastic part and slip your foot in and pull on the rope.  I can't put a sock on without it.  I also use the long shoe horn to put on slip on or walking shoes.  The stick with the hooks on each end are helpful with dressing.  If all you need is the grabber it is available as a single item.

Thanks Wally, I looked at some and reached sensory overload so stopped. This one looks perfect! What length do you have 26" or 32"? 26" may be enough for me but if you find the 37" better I could be swayed. Don't need the other stuff in the hip kit. Thanks again!

7,089 steps yesterday. A little tidying up in preparation for OT interview today and another laundry. (Still catching up on that.)

Tomorrow I see my pcp for wellness check after being hospitalized, Medicare required. I am hoping I have gained back some weight.

I have both but if I had only one I would go with the longer one.  The main reason I like the shorter one is that I attach it to my walker and it is better for that.  Both work for anything I usually need it for but the longer one may give you just that extra you could use sometimes. OTOH, I have never had an instance that I can recall where I could not use the 26" for anything so I guess it would certainly do the job.

Thanks Wally, I'll have to think about it a bit. Sure would be nice to have on at each end of the house.

Yeah, I had one of the grabbers from the hip kit and I guess that was the longer one.  I bought two more and they were the shorter ones so I could have one in different places in the house and those were the shorter ones and I have not noticed any problem with the shorter one reaching anything I need it for.  Also like I said I attach one to my walker with the clip it has on it so it is always with me.  You may not be interested in that but it works well for me and the longer one is too long for that.

Wowsa! 7,642 steps yesterday!!!

I really  am getting stronger each day. Today will be busy too with pcp appointment. Kind of reinforces my decision to forego all the offerings of the Home Health folks. I really don't need any of the services they offer...

6,766 steps yesterday.

Didn't expect this high a number with all the sitting driving to and dr and sitting at dr's office.  Guess the grocery shopping helped even as small as it was.

Well, I haven't posted on this thread for a long time because I just don't have the ability to walk for a very long time but I was also looking at my Apple watch for a step count and it is not very good at it, especially as I am still using a walker and I was showing around 500 steps a day or less.  Yesterday I decided to try the Pedometer app on my phone and ended up with a total of 1513 steps and didn't start using the app until 10:00AM so I am looking at trying to do better than 2000 steps today and see where I can go from there.  One thing I am sure of is that I will either improve, desired outcome, or I will need to back off and do less but I am going to post how it is going each day.

Good for you Wally! When I was using the walker all the time in the beginning at rehab, I noticed my counter on my phone did not pick up all the steps. Maybe because my weight was more on the walker rather than my feet?? As soon as I got off the walker, my counts jumped back to normal for what I was doing. Could that be what is going on with you too?
