5,189 steps yesterday. Didn't expect or try to get close to yesterday's number but at least I made it over 5,000. That is my secondary goal.

On another forum I frequent we recently had a discussion about steps:

"NYTimes: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/06/well/move/10000-steps-health.html

A 2019 study by Dr. Lee and her colleagues found that women in their 70s who managed as few as 4,400 steps a day reduced their risk of premature death by about 40 percent, compared to women completing 2,700 or fewer steps a day. The risks for early death continued to drop among the women walking more than 5,000 steps a day, but benefits plateaued at about 7,500 daily steps. In other words, older women who completed fewer than half of the mythic 10,000 daily steps tended to live substantially longer than those who covered even less ground."

I had heard the myth of 10,000 being the "magic number to health" before and now as I do get older I see the reality is probably more like the number quoted in the article. It was an interesting conversation.

Yesterday was not a walking day, 2166 steps, I spent a lot of time setting my office up with a new monitor and stand and various other things to try and improve my setup.  I am still working on it and will spend some more time today but it is nice to get things a little more suitable to how I want to use it.
Yeah, there was never any study or health reason for the 10,000 steps a day.  It was put out by a manufacture of a pedometer to boost sales!  There have been a couple of studies that have shown that about 7500 steps a day is probably the best number to think of as a max and around 4500 steps seems to be quite good. The 10,000 steps a day myth has been promoted by present day "activity tracker" manufactures like Fitbit also.  I was quite happy to do 10,000 steps a day for several years and as long as you can do it without having a problem I think that is great but it isn't something to worry about if it becomes too difficult to do.

Hmmm. Interesting thoughts. Practically everyday we learn something that busts "myths" that we believed in.

5,878 steps yesterday.

Just for yuks, I looked at my personal best on my step counter. It was 20,714 steps back on 7/28/2019! Followed by a lot of +20,000 counts. Those days are gone, probably forever, and really don't care as long as I can get some activity each day with a goal of at least 5,000+ when I can do it.

3628 steps yesterday.  Yeah, my best day was just over 24,000 steps a few years ago when I was on vacation and I did manage a few days of 20,000+ steps back when I was doing 10,000 steps or more every day.  Yeah, those days are gone so I also just am happy to do as much as I can and get some movement each day.

I'm not sure how many steps I had yesterday  ~tnk~  I reset the pedometer before I wrote it down this morning.  It was 3 thousand something!  Too early in the morning I guess.  Unlike the phone the pedometer is just a step counter and doesn't keep a history and you have to reset it each day.  It is tracking the number of steps better than the phone but you don't get any of the other things the phone app has.  It is also much easier to use because you just clip it to your pocket and forget about it.  Most of the time you don't even know it is there so it does have it's advantages.

My phone is always in my pocket! It actually saved my bacon when I fell in Dec as I had it right there to call 911. The only time it isn't on me is bathing (but it is close) or at bedtime when it goes on the nightstand within reach.

My case is the other way around. I do have the watch on, but it is very bad at tracking the steps.

3735 steps yesterday.  I was feeling better, hope that it continues but you never know.  I am starting the day well today so we will see how it goes.
I agree Barbara that it is a good policy to have the phone with you at all times.  My Apple watch will also access my phone when I am in the house so even if I don't have the phone in my pocket I can make a call in an emergency.  I like using the pedometer because it is so small and I don't even feel it and it is a bit more accurate than the phone but it has it's drawbacks also.  Like SKB said the Apple watch for some reason is not good at tracking steps but the Fitbit worn on the wrist was.  The problem for me is that I am still using the walker and anything worn on the wrist will not work.

5,772 steps yesterday. A little more than the day before, but still not pushing.

I have to think about what I am going to do once cleared for regular activity and the brace is gone. I think I will be doing the same,  just what I can do w/out pushing it for a long while. It will be nice to ease back into driving and be able to go when and where I want once again.

3703 steps yesterday.  As long as I can keep up to or over the 3500 mark I am happy for now.  It does seem like I am getting stronger.  I am able to walk without using the walker more as time goes on.  Being able to drive is a big thing for me.  I went out yesterday and took a couple pair of Wrangler jeans to be shortened, the curse of short legs, and got my oil changed.  it had been a year since my oil change but only about 1200 miles.  I don't drive that much and only around town.  I live on the South side of town and it is only 3 miles to the other side of town so I don't rack up a lot of miles.
