Tomorrow is the day...I just want to be out of this brace!

3071 steps yesterday.  Honestly I am not devoting a lot of time to walking but doing as much as I can make time for.
Yeah, 12 weeks is a long time so I agree it seems quite long enough.  If I was in your place and the doctor said I needed to continue with it I would really want a detailed explanation of why and just when it would come off for good!

Yeah, 12 weeks is more than enough in my book! I have always been a fast healer and this just doesn't make sense to me. If in fact she wants me to stay in the brace longer, she is going to have to give me a lot of good reasons and show me the x-rays too!!

6,468 steps yesterday. Some nervous pacing I'm sure added to the count.

Of course it had to snow overnight and is still snowing now (7:35AM) but supposed to stop by 9-10ish. Only a bit over 2" snow but I worry my ride will freak out on me...

3297 steps yesterday.  Just out of curiosity because some people rely on distance measurement instead of steps I figured out the comparison.  My cardiologist only understands distance and steps mean nothing to him and SKB's treadmill measures KM so with my short legs it makes a difference.  For me one mile is about 2534 steps,1.6 km. Back in the days when I was making 10,000 steps a day I went to about 200 steps over that to hit the 4 mile point.  If I were taller and had a 30 inch stride 10K steps would be equal to 5 miles.

That works out to 1584 steps to a km. My count is 1460 but still a small stride I would say. Besides, my comfortable walking speed has also gone down a bit.

7,715 steps yesterday.

Lots of walking at the hospital from x-ray to dr and then waiting for my ride. Then add on grocery shopping and. then putting groceries away when I got home. (Until yesterday it took me a couple of days to get the groceries all dealt with!)

I have to check my step app and see what I have down for my stride and see if that is still up to date. I set it up quite a while ago, now I wonder if it needs adjusting. One project for today...I really need to get my taxes done too!!

2971 steps yesterday.  Not a lot but the Dr. appointment took up some time.  One thing that I haven't changed which surprises me is the speed that I walk at.  I walk at about 110 steps/min. and that has always been my normal rate.  I could walk slower and then maybe get a few more steps in but I am comfortable at that pace.  Kind of funny as I am pushing a walker around but it just feels right.

I know I have been walking slower, brace/back and all, but I think I can do more soon. One exercise the PT had me doing at rehab was walking as fast as I could on a tiny track which she timed. I did OK but the reality of being home kind of slowed me down then, but now I am feeling so much better...

5,618 steps yesterday. After the 15th, I took it a bit easy yesterday.

I did go in and reset my weight (down 10+#'s since I set it up) and lowered my stride. Went down 3" for now, I want to see how everything settles out after I get used to no brace and moving freely before I do a final reset. Stride definitely shorter right now don't know if that will be permanent...

2971 steps yesterday.  I can't seem to make it above the 3k mark and just a little while ago I thought that I would be getting into the 5K range but it doesn't seem to be where I am going to be right now.
Stride length really doesn't mean anything if you go by the step count.  The number of steps is the best way to keep track of your walking that is the same no matter how long, or short, your stride is. It does help to relate to any one that uses miles or kilometers but steps is the same for every one.

Agree, I just wanted to see distance for my own info. I look much more closely at the number of steps...that is where my priority is.

In all probability it will be permanent. But as you both say, it hardly matters. The point is to keep moving as much as possible for as long as possible.

6,577 steps yesterday.

One thing I notice is if I am walking more quickly, my stride is longer, at this point I am still taking it easy, so shorter stride.  Either way, it really doesn't matter that much, the steps/moving around are what is more important not the distance.

3371 steps yesterday.  Yeah, I am probably over sensitive about steps/miles because I am short and when someone walks 5 miles/10/000 steps and I walked 4 miles/10,000 steps I did just as much work as the other person and felt slighted.  That was back when a lot more people were posting on another forum and it was really silly but I was more competitive in those days.  The other thing is that my cardiologist is a big fan of my walking but steps just don't seem to be something he can relate to.  He always asks me about my walking but just wants to hear about miles walked.  When it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter and just moving and doing what you are able to do is the important thing.
