2444 steps yesterday.  I suppose I should get busy and spend a bit more time walking but I seem to get caught up in other things.  One of the things I am working on is balance.  I watched a video by a PT instructor that researched seniors having balance problems and the conclusion was that it was not necessarily a strength problem but rather a loss of muscle memory.  Depending on things like a walker or other means you tend to lose the ability to easily balance yourself and practicing brings that ability back.  There are 10 different exercises that you can do without putting yourself in a position where you will fall but it trains you to use your ability to balance yourself.  I am going to try it for a while to see just how well it works.  It seems to make sense and won't hurt anything and balance is something I can definitely improve.

Balance is definitely an issue for me! Could you post a link to that video? Thanks!

This is just one of his videos and the first one I found.  His channel has a lot more that I haven't really gotten into yet.

Thanks Wally! That looks very doable. Only watched a few minutes, but will give it a try this afternoon.

6,700 steps yesterday. Don't often see a round number like that!

Most of the day I was just puttering around. Going through the back of y closet, I found several pairs of comfy exercise/sweat style pants that now fit again ! Score!! I know they probably won't fit for long but boy, will I enjoy them again!!

2609 steps yesterday.  I am sure not getting as many steps in as I probably should.  I did start working on the balance exercises and found that I am not doing too bad with the first ones I tried.  One of the things I am working on is my posture when walking.  The walker tends to make you bend over when walking if you don't make an effort to stand straight and it puts more strain on the back.  I am hoping to get to the point where I am confident enough to leave it behind.

Thanks SKB.  I think I knew that at one time but forgot.

Wally, maybe you need to adjust the height of your walker? I don't use mine much anymore, but just checked and I do stand up straight when using it.

I used public transport yesterday and ended up with 8359 steps. App shows about 4.8 km, I think it might be more.

A surprising 7,539 steps yesterday.

All the rushing around getting the filter for the plumber to install and getting garbage collected and I guess just doing "stuff".

I try not to make exercise a chore, I want it to be something I feel good about doing not forced to do for a certain number of steps each day. I do eventually want to get back to somewhere near where I was, but I want to go slowly and not re-injure myself trying. And if I never get all the way back, as long as I can move around. I am OK with that too.

3405 steps yesterday.  Not really a big deal and this morning I am sore, sigh.  I guess this is about the best I can expect so I will keep my expectation at that.
Barbara, I have my walker adjusted to the right height and if I use it correctly I can stand straight when walking but I have had a bad habit of pushing it out in front of me and bending over to reach it.  It comes from trying to use the walker as something to lean on to prevent pain from standing without support.  It is something I have to consciously avoid and stand up straight which relieves strain on my back.  Lately I have been doing pretty good at it.

It was just a suggestion Wally. I'm sure your therapist adjusted the walker properly. I was just thinking "out loud".

YIKES!! Just had a visit from the Sheriff! I had reported that my garbage can had been vandalized and most likely switched with an older one of mine that had been taken. Apparently the young man across from me had also stolen a garbage can from my neighbor that drove me all over when I couldn't. Garbage co. replaced my original can and put my name on a label on it. Yesterday when I took my garbage up, vandalized can was back and my name gone. Put my garbage in the can and called co. they said they would replace can and try to figure out a way to keep it safe. I guess they called the Sheriff. Now I am a little scared of retaliation. All I wanted was a clean can...

Now I have a call into garbage co. to see if anyone put garbage in my can while I was away in hospital/assisted care...

5,908 steps yesterday.

Ran a few errands (so nice to be able to go out on the spur of the moment!) it was a really quick run, so didn't add too much to step count. Stopped by beauty shop to make appointment for haircut and she had a cancellation so took me right then. Wow, how good it feels! I like the style and it is one more step towards feeling "human" again!
