How is everyone coping with current events?

I hope everyone is taking the necessary precautions and most of all, remaining safe and healthy.  I live in northern California and my town has yet to have an active case, but the surrounding counties have all been affected so I feel it's just a matter of time.

Stores have lots of empty shelves, schools are closed, daycare and after school programs are closed, grocery stores and others have reduced their hours, and I heard today that court administrators will be meeting this afternoon to discuss what steps they should take.  Courts in a neighboring county are closed.  (The reason I am paying attention to courthouse closures is because I work in a law firm.)  I am at work today, but my boss and I have agreed that I'll cut my work hours in half for now.

I am fortunate that even if my paychecks stop coming for a few months, I can weather that financial hit.  Most people cannot and I do not know how they will survive, nor the many small businesses that operate with very little financial safety net.

I stopped at the local grocery store this morning before work and was able to get cat food, bacon, hot dogs (not a normal item in my grocery cart, but they will freeze and last awhile), cream cheese, eggs, and other items.  Unfortunately, they had no HWC but I hope that's temporary.  Most canned goods are not good for HCLF.

We live in Illinois and schools and doctors office are either closed or on extended leave.  Personally I had two schedules appointments cancelled by the doctor's offices and rescheduled for May.

The grocery stores here are like going to the Zoo.  There are no carts, no TP, no kleenex, no personal care wipes, no Tylenol and mostly no frozen veggies.  I saw one guy with two carts, one full of TP and the other full of drinking water.

Stay safe everyone.

As a country, India seems to have taken appropriate action, in time to contain it. So far some 100 odd cases have been reported and that's a decent number for such a large population.

Isolating people is a problem here, because everything is overcrowded. Therefore, a criminal section (144) of the Indian Penal Code banning assembly of 4 or more people has been invoked in some cities. How it can be enforced, I have no idea. Schools, colleges, malls, theaters have been shut down and larger corporations are encouraging people to work from home. Courts have curtailed hearings to only Urgent matters.

With the pollution levels and frequent weather variations, cough and cold, are more common than can be. With these being some of the recognizable symptoms, paranoia can strike very easily. Personally, work goes on as usual, but we had 2 people reporting a fever yesterday, and they've just come back from a journey to another town so, we'll be keeping a watch.

Here in MT we just within the last few days had the first 6 cases diagnosed. There are only just a bit over 1 million people here spread over a lot of space. But I'm sure it will get worse before it gets better. All the K-12 schools are closed for 2 weeks, the colleges are going online until the end of the school year, bars and restaurants are closed except for delivery orders, the courts have even cut back activity. Schools have canceled events and ST Pat's day events are all cancelled. We shut down fast so I hope that keeps the curve of infection as flat as possible. Being 70, almost 71, I am in the high risk group, not to mention the diabetes.

Personally, I am retired, a widow and mostly a hermit by nature. Social distancing is no problem for me, though all the panic has kind of got me on edge.

I normally only go out once a week to the PO, store and any other errands. I went out today and did my errands and stocked up enough that I can conceivably stay home for 3+ weeks. The only thing I will have to go out for is to pick up my test strips at the PO. I'm hoping maybe the postmaster will let my carrier deliver them to my mailbox here at home, just hoping.

The grocery store was crazy today. No carts, no TP, tissue, any kind of sanitizer, no milk or HWC, and no chicken...chicken??? This hoarding is so very weird. There were paper towels and a couple containers of baby wipes. I just got a 6 pack of the wipes from Amazon but I did buy a couple rolls of paper towels. I'm pretty well stocked on most things, I bought some sausage, a couple pork chops, some frozen veggies, several hunks of cheese and eggs. I am always ahead in TP and tissues so I think I am going to be just fine there. I don't understand the paper product hoarding either. I guess I just don't understand the hysteria. I hope people do practice the social distancing for the sake of the elderly compromised people.

Stay safe everyone!

There are no reported cases in this area, or even in this county, but we get news from Los Angeles and people seeing the store shelves empty panic and rush to the stores and but everything they can think of.  TP is a weird thing for people to hoard but I think a lot of it is seeing others buying up all they can decide to get theirs before it all runs out, even though there is no shortage.  It just takes time to restock shelves.  Freezer sales are also over the top so people are looking for ways to hoard even more items.  So far I have not had any problem but I wonder when there is going to be no more room for people to hoard things and shelves can get back to normal.

I'm sure you meant LCHF.

Ha ha!  Yes, I did.

And update for my county in northern California - we are going into a shelter in place effective tomorrow.  So only people working essential jobs are to continue working, but I believe our office will have to shut down.  I am a legal assistant and work for a family law attorney.  The courts have already closed to the public and judges are only hearing "essential" or serious matters.  I think all non-essential businesses will have to close their doors, or figure out a way to conduct their business solely online for now.  The local farmer's market (an open air market) will remain open and I will meet up with one of my sisters there on Saturday morning (maintaining a 6' distance between us) to get some fresh poultry and fish, hopefully cauliflower and broccoli.  I will also be donating some money to our local food bank and Meals on Wheels.  Such a precarious time for so many and I hope all of you are able to manage throughout this pandemic.

Just yesterday my husband and I were wondering how this pandemic was being handled in other countries as far as their citizens going to the grocery store etc?  Do stay safe skb.  How are your citizens responding to the lockdown order?

I had two doctor appointments cancelled until May.  They were the podiatrist and the audiologist.  We are just wondering how long we will be allowed to go out for food to the grocery store?  Hubby observed sparse shelves in certain items like paper goods and bakery items like bread when he stopped at the local store.

Be safe everyone.

I also find it interesting how different parts of our country are handling the situation. And I like the shopping reports. We are pretty much all shut down here in MT. So far in MT there are 15 confirmed cases of Covid19, but by all reports that means there are probably many, many more infected walking around.

I called the PO today to see if they would home deliver my test strips and there was no answer so I am assuming the Window area is closed. So I am going to have to go to my box to get my strips.

I am pretty much convinced I am going to cancel my trip to CA in June. I just can't see getting in a metal tube with a whole bunch of strangers and then the trip back home from a place with a high number of virus cases... It just doesn't feel like a safe thing to do. Better to miss this year's visit and have many more visits to come.

I found this profoundly disturbing. Part of me wants to believe it, part says oh hell no...yet it is possible... I have been troubled all day thinking about this. I like to think all people are basically good, this makes me fear that a hierarchy of people will control the world for their profit... and they probably will. But they can't control everyone, I can't believe it can go that far.

I lost a dear friend to AIDS in the 80's I don't believe that was faked, I don't want to buy into this, but I believe the sincerity of this doctor...but I won't put my life at risk at tis point.

I ignored most of the political stuff but the things he had to say about immunity, diet and vitamin intake made sense.

It is a sad fact that people who make a lot of money only think about money and all the philanthropy and altruism is mostly a put on and some inner guilt IMO.
