Improvement in foot neuropathy

I guess this goes in the Lounge forum :)

About a year or so prior to my diabetes diagnosis, I started having some weirdness with my left foot.  When I would lie down, my foot would feel like it was falling asleep.  Not wanting it to mean anything serious, I took to sleeping with my foot dangling off the side of the bed.  (Great approach, right?)  Of course, the condition didn't improve and now I realize it was an early warning sign of my diabetes onset.

By the time I was diagnosed, I was experiencing tingling and discomfort in both feet, with the left still the most affected.  During the day, my feet were usually fine, although in hot weather, my feet swell and the neuropathy was problematic.  But it was when I would get home from work, kick off my shoes and stretch out on the couch that the discomfort really became distracting.  I had trouble sleeping at night due to foot pain.  Nothing seemed to help much.

I still have some level of discomfort in my feet, but since switching to LCHF, taking Metformin, and getting my BS numbers down in the 5% range, there has been a very slow but steady improvement.  So slow that it didn't register in my brain that for the past week or so, I've had minimal problems with my feet at night.  When I rub the toes on my left foot (especially the big and 2nd toe), they no longer feel numb and weird.  They feel almost normal.  I still have some bad nights, where even the touch of the sheets on my bare foot can bother me - but more often I have good nights where my feet feel almost back to normal.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but for me this is another sign that LCHF really does make the most sense for people with diabetes.

My own experience was much the same.  With LCHF and normal glucose levels, my neuropathy is not gone, but it's eased a lot and has not gotten worse!

There is no such thing as preaching to the choir. Every story helps reassure that we're on the right path. Back in 2005 I had severe pain in my right calf muscle. So bad that I could hardly walk. Dr suspected DVT which the Doppler did not confirm. But, he failed to connect the dots. Thankfully, my feet haven't given me any trouble after that. Has the recovery been total ? Hard to say, but we do try.
