Quote from: bigskygal on June 29, 2021, 01:28:08 PMHad a creepy experience yesterday while pumping gas. A guy about my age pulled up to the other side of the pump and started chatting to me. Then he came around and washed my front windshield! I was getting very nervous by this point. I thanked him for his kindness and he went back to his truck and left saying "Have a nice day". Never in all my years of pumping gas have I ever had anything like that happen! All sorts of scary thoughts raced through my mind...

Yup. In today's day and age it is creepy. Maybe there is a lot of goodness in people but you can never know for sure. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Wally, that heat wave has been making it to the news in India as well. I read about it in the paper, yesterday I think.

163 this morning.

Wally, I never considered the possibility of town water coming out hot enough to shower without using hot water. Saves you some money at least.  I've seen asphalt in the midwest hot enough to fry eggs - hmm, maybe you could use your road for cooking?

Grammabear I'm so glad your washer is fixed! For some reason your comments reminded me of where I lived in Italy and the town had a huge stone basin full of water that the women used for washing clothes - the good old days?

Okay, so I called my spine specialist's office yesterday to see if they'd gotten my MRI results. Not only had they not received them, but the doctor is now on vacation until the middle of July. Grrr! I'm going to see if I can get on the patient portal to see the radiologist's repor; won't do a thing for the pain but at least I'll have an idea of what's going on.

Lastly, BigSkyGal, I once had an elderly woman proposition me quite directly at a gas pump.  It's a bit different for a man I suppose but it's still weird!

BigSkyGal - Your experience at the gas pump was strange indeed.  If I were you, I might consider carrying a personal safety alarm on my keychain.  They sell them on Amazon for around $8.  A friend of mine carries one as she lives alone and feels safer having the device close to her.

Wally - That is really unusual to have tap water be warm enough for a shower.  In the Midwest when it gets super hot, we have the roadway 'buckle' or break apart at stressful spots.  This has happened many times when the weather gets around the upper 90s to 100s.

Tamagno - The patient portal is helpful to learn about test results.  I once saw a rheumatologist to try and determine if I had lupus.  He ran all manner of tests which came up on the patient portal 2 weeks before his secretary got around to calling me with test results which were negative.

Do any of you eat a breakfast or brunch?  And if so, what do you find is blood sugar friendly.  I like eggs but I'm growing tired of the same old thing.  I also like things like oatmeal, but oatmeal is horrid to my blood sugar.  I don't eat cold cereal because it too is unkind to blood sugar.

87 this morning.  We only got to 100° yesterday but it is going to warm up a bit now and it looks like we will be around 107-108° for the next few days.  We aren't experiencing an abnormal heat wave here, the daytime temp over 100° is normal and 110-115° is not rare.  On the other hand the Northwestern states like Oregon and Washington are not used to the temp being over 100° and there roads are buckling and there the people are not used to that high heat.  Interesting that we don't have the problem with roads buckling, maybe a difference in construction.  The water coming into the house being warm is normal and expected every Summer and just one of the things you get used to.
Barbara, it is sad that nowadays if someone offers a kind gesture it is so unusual that we look at it as creepy but I would have been wary as well.  There are enough kooks out there you never know what the motive is.
Tamagno, hope you may get some information that is helpful.  Bummer that the doctor has left on vacation.

102 this hot morning. This heat is killing me!!

99° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 99°/57°. I am not doing well in this heat. I don't have AC, the house is all closed up, I have a mister in the fridge that I use hourly and I am drinking tons of water. I have been tossing quarts of water out on the deck to seep down where the kitties and mama are living, each time I do they pop up and eat and drink.

Once it cooled down last night, I opened up the house, then sat down and promptly fell asleep in the recliner until early morning which was time to close up everything. Went to bed and didn't get up until after 11AM. I will be so glad when this heat spell passes!

Grammabear, my favorite breakfast is full fat Greek yogurt with a few berries on it and a cold cup of tea.

124 today morning.

In the 90s we used to visit this Tiger Reserve where we were kindly accommodated by the Forest Ranger in their Guest cottage. This cottage had a overhead water tank built out of mild steel. Temperatures in those parts touches 120oF every year. The water from the tap was so hot during the day that you could almost make tea from it. There were no showers. For bathing we had to store water overnight in buckets for it to be cool enough.

I eat Breakfast and Dinner as the only meals. For BF the choice usually is something made from eggs in different ways. On the side I eat bacon slices fried in butter, and home made keto-bread.

119 this morning.

Thunderstorms here caused power to go out about 6pm last night - oh, joy. My power backups lasted long enough to report the outage and get things ready. I slept badly, and had been out in the three season room trying to sleep when power came back at 3:15am. Like this one, outages rarely last more than 8-9hrs. but since there are only three houses here we're not necessarily a high priority. I spent the rest of the night just getting everything back working properly.

Grammabear, I eat pretty much constantly and breakfast lately has been a single slice of sprouted grain bread that I saute in about a half stick of butter (makes it a little mushy which I need to be able to swallow it - I couldn't manage actual toast). It doesn't cause much trouble glucose-wise and while it may sound a little gross is actually pretty good.

I did get on our hospital's patient portal yesterday where I discovered as yet no sign of the radiologists report on my MRI. I did find the blood work they require beforehand though which is interesting in its own right. As always quite a few numbers are wacky but the new one that surprised me is something called anasarca which is body-wide edema. Mind you, on a good day I barely weigh 100lbs. I guess if I somehow got rid of the edema I'd be reduced to a skeleton. Good grief!

110 this morning.

My morning started off bright and early before I even got out of bed with a phone call from an '800' number from someone I obviously do not know.  I obliged them by hanging up the phone and ending their call.

Our weather today will be about 80 deg with 75% humidity.  It isn't weather that can be enjoyable.  Sorry it is so hot where you live Barbara.

86 this morning.  We are used to temps over 100° here and homes and cars all have air conditioning of some kind and when it is too hot outside you just stat inside.  Areas that are not used to it like where Barbara is typically don't have air conditioning and the heat can really take a toll.  Also our humidity is normally quite low, usually in the 10-15% range.  Hopefully things will cool down a bit in those areas, here the weather is normal for this time of year.
Tamagno, I hope you get some results soon.  I don't know much about edema or it's causes but that may be something for your doctor to take interest in.
Grammabear, if I do not recognize the number I don't answer it.  A lot of scam callers use 800 numbers.  If it is a legitimate caller they will leave a message.

109 this mostly clear morning.

90° was the high yesterday according to my outside thermometer, the website I check forecasts on said it was 102 yesterday. Today's forecast is 93°/61°. This heat is really wearing me down. At least there is a bit of cloud cover that might help keep it a bit cooler today.

I hope you get some answers soon Tamagno.

My iPhone will silence any call from someone not in my phone book. I haven't had a landline in years. I check out the caller and if I don't recognize it, I block and delete the call. 99% of them are unknowns.

Barbara - Please forgive my ignorance about iPhones, but how do you set the phone up to silence any unknown caller?  I am always getting 'unknown' callers - more often on my landline phone but also on the iPhone.

I haven't had a landline in years so I have no idea how to block callers there. I actually don't know what to do on the iPhone. I will look more tomorrow.  I just found this link:
 https://www.iphonelife.com/content/how-to-block-calls-unknown-numbers#:~:text=%5BSolution%5D%20How%20to%20Block%20Unknown%20Numbers%20on%20My,Set%20schedule%20to%20a%2024-hour%20period.%20See%20More.

Maybe it will help. I don't remember what I did, but the only numbers that will ring on my iPhone are those in my address book.

Grammabear, this is a link to my website where some recipes are described. Also my blog has some recipes, and, our Forum Recipe section is full of innovative ideas.

But I'll also go one step further, and leave you a link to our YouTube video on how to make the bread. However, The Mrs keeps experimenting and improving. Our current version of the keto-bread, has a tsp of Yeast (soaked in warm water and some honey) added to the Dry mix to give the bread some fluffiness.

On the iPhone, you can go to Settings, where you will find the "Do not Disturb" options. You can choose how to set it up. You can choose clock based DND or Manual settings. Once done, and if on Manual, whenever you want to use DND, you can Swipe from Down to Up direction on your Home Screen, to open up the Control Centre, and click the DND (1/2 moon) icon.
