81 this morning.  It is starting to cool down a bit and we should be under 110° by the end of the week.  That is closer to normal for here in July.
Tamagno, I don't know what would be an answer for you but maybe eating a small portion more often would help.  I'm sure it can't be easy to deal with.
We moved form the mountain home to town 4 years ago and it was something I don't want to repeat.  It is a lot of work.

104 this smoky morning.

85° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 90°/51°. I think the smoke cover is keeping the temp down a bit.

I did my errands yesterday, I am so exhausted by the time I get home, I just unpack the things that need to go in the refrigerator or freezer and do the rest the next day. If shopping does that to me I couldn't imagine thinking of moving...

Tamagno, I imagine the feeding tube is an awful thought, is there any high calorie drink/food substitute that could help? I am sure you have investigated already, it is a hard thing to deal with, I hope you can find some solution that works for you.

Tamagno - Not that television advertising is always truthful but lately I have been seeing ads for Boost glucose control.  It says that it has lots of protein but is blood glucose friendly.  Just a thought....

John,

I think all of the suggestions make sense. Smoothies containing things that taste good to you and are energy containing, and, splitting them or meals into several small ones, so that you can hold them, do make sense. I'm sure you will figure a way out.

Your rants are more than welcome. That's what we are all here for. I see that each one of us here has their own issues and if we do talk about them, we feel better.

163 this morning.

Many thanks for your suggestions! I usually have two smoothies a day with varying ingredients depending on my mood. I do have a supplement called Benecal that adds 300 calories to whatever its in but zero carbs which is easier.

I suspect there are elements of my problem in common with diabetes, vis, there's nothing visibly wrong which leads to people assuming whatever is happening is our fault.  (You got diabetes because you're fat and eat too much - or, in my case the opposite.) Humans appear to have an unstoppable need to blame the "victim" that crops up now and then.

On the other side of that are people with chronic diseases who become insufferably demanding which quality can be especially frustrating for care givers and goad people into expressing their anger toward them.

Mostly, I say as little as possible about my ailments when talking to others and deflect the conversation by asking people about themselves. For most, that's their favorite topic and defuses things somewhat. That scheme, however, doesn't go far if your wife's a shrink...

Tamagno - Just a thought for your smoothies....Unless you do not care for the taste of it - heavy whipping cream could add additional calories to the base of your smoothie.  I have 1 tablespoon of it in my morning coffee and the label says 50 calories.

Do any of you indulge in eating "berries"?  I love blueberries and yet on some online websites it states that diabetic people should not eat fruit of any kind.

95 this morning.  Yesterday we had a short sprinkle that just got the pavement wet.  It did keep it a bit cooler for a while but it raised the humidity to 45% which is high for here and it got sticky.  Later after the sun came out it warmed up and the humidity dropped so it wasn't too bad.  It looks like we will be around 105-106° for the next few days which is a good thing.
Tamagno, I agree that talking to others about your issues with others will often just result in some kind of blame that it is your fault.  Dealing with health problems seems to be part of getting older.  I remember Shanny saying "getting older ain't for sissies" and that is quite true.
Grammabear, I think because all people are different that you just have to see how you react to something.  Some can have berries and not have a problem, depending on how much.  I avoid all fruit because everything spikes my bg but that is just my experience.  I don't pay attention to what other people say about what is good or bad, I just test to find out.

104 this smoky morning. Getting tired of the smoke, but glad it is not burning near me...

85° was the high again yesterday, today's forecast is 93°/54° though I don't think it will get that high. Had a small thunderstorm and a bit of rain blow through yesterday evening it was nice for the cooler air.

Grammabear I can get by with a few berries at a time, like 5-6. I do use Boost occasionally, I haven't found the Glucose Control one though. I have times when I just can't eat so I drink 1/2 a bottle of it for a meal. It doesn't seem to mess with my bg# too much. I have to go up to town Friday to have my labs done for my pcp appointment on Monday so I will look at the big grocery store there.

So far as your scheme fails only with your wife, then it's OK. With me, any discussion on diabetes sooner than later hits the passion button somewhere deep within my brain, and I start to sound like the conspiracy theorist against food and pharma. I need to work on keeping that in check.

That is so true. If you look closely, Bad News and Age are directly proportional. I hope Shanny is doing well in the ageless world.

Tamagno

156 this morning.

My smoothies and my coffee go through all manner of permutations. I used to add whipped cream to everything as well as heavy cream but at some point that started to seem too dense. I also can use frozen fruit of various kinds which can be good but they seem flavorless in large part. With the new G6 Control IQ I've gotten much freer about what I eat as it seems to keep glucose under control even if I have ice cream - amazing.

I made what may well be my last trip to the DMV yesterday and finished the whole registration fiasco. I was given new plates and have to install those - likely I'll find rusted screws and will have to soak them in WD40 and use my impact driver to get them out. Could be a little messy but then its done.

This afternoon I see the new spine specialist and will see what he has to say. If I can get that fixed it'll be a huge improvement. Of course, I have high hopes, but I know better and will just see what's next.

My wife is at her clinic office this morning so I'm enjoying a few hours of solitude. She has only a few more weeks before she retires so I'm going to have to adapt to having her around all the time. That sounds worse than I intend and it'll be just fine, but its something new for both of us.

What a week this has been!

119 this morning.

Tamagno - It is a big adjustment when a spouse retires and the 'other' spouse no longer has the peace and quiet they once did.  My husband retired a year ago after working 50 years.  I thought it would be great to have company after being alone every evening for what seemed like forever.  But we both had a lot of adjustments to make.  Now....we understand, most of the time, that each of us needs "ME" time each day.  If the weather is nice, my husband likes to spend time outside.  If the weather isn't nice, we found that even being in different rooms in the house helps our mental outlook.

No one tells us how to grow old gracefully, and sometimes when the body hurts my outlook turns inward and I get "out of sorts".

91 this morning.  It is cooler and that is nice.  A bit windy yesterday and today but not bad.
It took a while to adjust to being retired but I am not married and I live in the same house as my BIL who is still working so I am on my own most of the time.  I think keeping busy is a big help to keeping happy.  I don't do anything that useful but tinkering around with computers and things like the 3D printer keep me occupied.  I am in the process of upgrading the first 3D printer, I have two now, and it is a challenge and that keeps me busy.  I couldn't sit and watch TV all day.  I've known too many that have retired and hate it because they don't have anything to do and just sit around doing nothing.  I think a hobby or other interest is a big help.
Tamagno, I hope the  spine specialist has some good news for you.  I know it would be a great relief if it could be resolved.

Wally - Anyone who can understand today's technology the way you do should be darned proud of what they know.  I recently received a message from Apple regarding storage on iCloud.  It was worded in such a manner as to confuse me thoroughly.  I finally figured it out, I think, but not until I had looked and looked trying to figure out what to do.  Sometimes I feel downright stupid where technology is concerned.  And yet I keep trying - so maybe that is what counts.

110 this morning, still smoky outside.

86° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 93°/54° but again, I don't think it will get that high due to the smoke cover. Nothing burning close to me but they have raised fire danger to Extreme in the forest near me.

Tamagno, I hope you can get some resolution to your spine issues from the doctor today.
