I am not retired, yet, and wouldn't want to be, in the sense, like Wally said, keep busy busy helps with being happy. Right now, with the economic mess and then Covid adding to things, life is very stressful, with business being bad and money being in short supply. Yet we keep trying ways and means to continue to survive peacefully.

Grammabear, I suppose the Apple message would be about your iCloud storage being almost full, and asking you to upgrade. They are always trying to sell you something. Either you need to keep deleting stuff from your phone or buy more storage space from them. Apple very smartly sells you everything on a per month basis, instead of lifetime or even annual. Things like videos and images occupy a lot of space and may need to be transferred to your computer so that your phone storage be light.

skb - I believe you are correct in that Apple is always wanting to sell you something.  If I had understood that when I was thinking about buying a cell phone, I might well have purchased an android phone so as to not always be tied to Apple by their proprietary stuff.

98 this morning.  I am enjoying the cooler weather.  I know 104-105° is quite hot to a lot of you but here it is normal and easy to deal with.  Much better than over 110°.
I got my lab results back from tests before my next Drs appointment next week and it looks mostly OK.  A1c was 5.0 and lipids are nice so that is good.  PSA is higher than the lab considers normal but I have been seeing an urologist and he doesn't see a problem but wants to monitor it.
Grammabear, I got interested in working on my own computer years ago after I took the one I had then into a shop to be upgraded and after paying them to do a couple of things I realized that I could do that myself.  I used to buy books to learn about such things but nowadays with the internet there is such a huge amount of information out there that is easy to get to it just takes looking for answers to what you are doing.  Mostly I do it now because it is fun but working on my own stuff was often because it just cost too much to pay someone to do what I could do myself.

104 this still smoky morning.

I was going to go up to town to have my labs done for Monday's pcp appointment but I slept in so late (after 11AM). and felt so tired even then that I didn't go. Will have to go in really early Monday to get labs done... Don't know why I am so tired lately.

Yesterday's high was 86°, the forecast for today is 91°/54°.

Missing Tamagno, hope he got some good news at the spine dr yesterday.

Me too. Like I said earlier, normally, his response is the first one that I get to see, after mine. Not today. Hope all is well.

I wish there had been internet in my growing (student) years. Social media, including communities like ours, are the best universities one can find, at least, at the base level.

Tamagno

143 this morning.

Sorry to have missed you all yesterday; I was exhausted from such a busy week and basically slept through to this morning.

So, no help from the spine specialist. He says its cancer and I have to see my oncologist while my oncologist says its not cancer and I have to see a spine specialist. Well, this whole thing is turning into a big mess with most every doctor pronouncing a different diagnosis. I did, however, get the name of a pain management specialist that I'll try.

I keep thinking it would be best if I could find ways to exercise more (which had been my plan prior to The Plague). At this point I'm too weak to make it to PT plus we're still seeing new cases of The Plague and the thought of using exercise equipment or getting in a pool just gives me the willies.

I guess what I'll try is walking around outside with my walker on the driveway.  Better than nothing and it has a seat so I can rest as needed. Otherwise I don't see anything that could help plus as I continue to slowly lose weight I get weaker.

At least today I seem to have more energy so I should be able to think clearer and perhaps come up with better plans.

Tamagno - I am sorry you are getting the run around with your doctors.  If you are able, maybe it would be easier for you to do some "chair exercises".  I've seen videos of gentle stretches that might benefit you when you are able.

Yesterday we mowed the grass and it was almost a perfect day weatherwise.  A gentle breeze, temperature around 75 deg F and no mosquitoes.  The grass looks nice today.  Birds are happy because mowing seems to bring Robins to graze the yard.

85 this morning.  It is a really beautiful morning here with the temp at 80° at 7:30 AM and heading to 105° later today.  The sky is clear and bright blue and only a slight breeze.  There are fires going in the state but all are farther north so no smoke.
Tamagno, sorry you didn't get better help from the spine "specialist".  I would think that the oncologist would know if it was cancer so it sounds like the spine doctor just used it as an excuse.  An easy way to avoid having to deal with something they don't have an answer to.  As far as exercise I think just doing what you are able to do is going to help.

123 this smoky morning. The smoke is so heavy it permeates the walls and I am feeling sick from it.

82° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 93°/52° but again I don't think it is going to get that high due to the smoke cover.

Tamagno, I agree with Wally, the Oncologist would be the one to know if it was cancer or not. Sounds like the spine "specialist" is just trying to pass the buck. I'm sorry you didn't get any resolution to your problem. As far as exercise goes, do what you can but don't try to do too much just for the sake if getting exercise.

tamagno, I don't know what to say, but sure hope that you do find some genuine and honest answers from your doctors. About the exercise part, Wally is absolutely right in saying, Do what you can.

I spent some time browsing our old forum just to see if there is any more activity than ours. They seem to have switched over from VB to XenForo for forum software. The Forum is better designed compared to our days there. VeeJay is no longer the Moderator and Mark (mbuster) seems to have taken over that role. Moon (who was with us for some time) is the other one, but hasn't made an appearance for 4-5 months now.

It is a highly commercial forum with Vertical Scope staffers running most of the show and content. Shanny still remains the highest posting member. Activity is very very low and all the old hands seem to have disappeared. IMHO text based communities will convert into video at some point and that time may not be far, with the improvement in bandwidth and speeds.

Another 136 today.

Interesting, I haven't been back there in a long time. Shanny is and will always be my hero. Her advice was always spot on! I still miss her.

Tamagno

114 this morning.

I like the advice you all gave me; seems rational and reasonable and has the ring of true wisdom. You can't beat that for advice no matter how many degrees you've got.

Grammabear, this year we're having seemingly barrages of birds from sparrows to robins and bluejays crashing into our windows despite having put blue tape across several.  In fact, my wife told me yesterday that the glass in our basement door had shattered. That's long been a favorite for the birds and I think one finally connected with it just right. Certainly there's nothing else at all likely to have struck it. Pretty weird...

Tamagno - We also have trouble with birds hitting our windows.  Our dining room window faces south and our bird feeder isn't far away from the window.  The window does a great job of reflecting and it is almost daily that a bird will attempt to fly through it.  Since it is a thermal pane glass, it has withheld the onslaught of the birds.  That is terrible that your basement window is broken.  Will it be easy for someone to come and replace it for you?

skb - I also have spent time browsing the old forum and am still not impressed with the advice being given there.

Barbara - I wonder if your thyroid gland is in need of attention?  Maybe that is why you are tired sometimes.

86 this morning.  It is overcast this morning and cooler but it will still get over 100°
today.  There is a fear of more wildfires in the West as we get monsoon type weather coming up from the south and bringing thunderstorms and lightening.  There are already several large fires in progress right now from California to Montana and conditions are bad for more.
Every once in a while there is a bird that hits one of our windows but I haven't seen any damage to birds or windows yet.   They do make a rather audible thump though.

I haven't visited the old forum for a long time.  Last time I found nothing interesting and haven't been back.  it seems that there is a lot more activity on social media like Facebook and Discord and the like.  I am on a couple of Facebook groups for 3D printing that have quite a large number of members.  Kind of reminds me of the old Yahoo Groups.

99 this still smoky morning. Nothing burning too close to me but the smoke is filling the valley. Haven't seen the mountains around me for many days.

It was 80° yesterday, today's forecast is 99°/54° again doubt it will be that high here.

I haven't been feeding the birds much this summer so the population is down. It didn't seem fair to attract them with all the cats here right now. I have had them crash into the living room windows many a time in the past. Fortunately no damage to the windows.

Kathy, I see my pcp tomorrow and will mention my tiredness and see if there is any issue with my thyroid. Thanks for the suggestion.
