Wally, I can't seem to find the link, but there were huge internet outages yesterday. Sorry I can't find the details, but for once it may not have been your cable supplier.

Its looking like a beautiful day here. Works out well as I got another outdoor camera from Amazon (Wyze) that I charged overnight and will install today. I really enjoy these things and they even sometimes collect interesting video of critters and people. If I want to see if I've had any deliveries, for example, I can check my doorbell and if anyone has come there will be a video clip. The camera I'm installing today will do the same with oil deliveries. Video clips get stored on mini-SSD chips so there's no fee associated.

I found this article about why blood sugar rises while searching for something entirely different:

Tamagno - I wish I understood how to make these outdoor cameras work for me because an American Robin decided to make a nest for herself in one of the hanging flower baskets on our porch.  I would like to "spy" on her as the time for the eggs to hatch is drawing closer.

85 this morning.  Nice weather here with bright sunny skies and no wind.
Tamagno, no, the problems I have with my internet is local.  The cable system here is over 25 years old and Mediacom is not going to spend any money replacing it here.  There is fiber available in the newer developments but not where I am.  There is a problem with a connection or the cable somewhere but because it is intermittent no one that has come out has been able to locate it.  It has been a problem since I connected to the cable network when moving in but it is getting worse.  If I had the option to get something else I would jump on it like the T-Mobile 5G internet or Starlink but neither are available here right now.
I have a Blink camera on my front door that is triggered by movement and Alexa notifies me if it is triggered and records the video to an SD card which works well.
I also have 4 cameras that are connected to an NVR recorder that are on all the time and I can see all around the property.  I had another system that was a lot harder to set up and finally quit so I bought this system, Reolink, on Amazon and it was really easy to install and set itself up and just works.  I get a really good picture from each camera day and night and it is easy to replay from the recording.  It has a 2 Terrabite hard disk that will hold about a week of recordings and then record over the oldest so I can always go back to view what has been recorded for the last week.
I can view the cameras on my phone or tablet and also on my desktop computer and I have it on my desktop monitor, I have two monitors, so I can see what is going on at any time.  I really like it and have become kind of attached to it.

97 this still smoky morning. Feeling much better and food is starting to be appealing again.

80° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 84°/46°.

Well, I have something embarrassing to admit. The reason I am feeling better is because I found what was making me sick. I had been in a funk for a couple of weeks and I let dishes pile up in the kitchen sink for about a week. Wednesday I got my act together and started washing them and discovered some black substance, probably some sort of mold at the bottom of the pile. I had smelled something lately but just thought it was the garbage under the sink. Got everything cleand up and sanitized and felt better about myself.

Thursday I woke up and realized I felt a lot better! I felt hungry for the first time in a while and I had energy. I didn't doze off multiple times during the day and my step count really went up. Today I feel even better. Sheesh, if I had stayed in that funk much longer, I could have killed myself!! I really feel stupid!

Wally, I was about to suggest Starlink but you already answered that question.

Internet is something that we cannot do without and for good reason. Outages are frustrating. We have a fibre-optic connection which was out for over 10 days a couple of months ago. Thankfully our cell phones were able to fill in for those days, and we were able to create hotspots for other devices. India has the cheapest data rates and that is why we don't need to monitor usage very carefully. I pay Rupees 1200/- (~ $16/-) for 5 phones per month for any amount of calls, SMSs, and 22 GB data each, which is inter-usable among members. Top-ups are also pretty cheap.

BigSkyGal, I'm so glad you're feeling better! Your discovery will have me looking at a couple of places I get mold here  and that I know I'm lazy about.

Wally, I'm going to have a look at the surveillance system you got. Yesterday I got my new camera mounted and running. These work great, but they haven't the ability to scan or pan. I have one indoor camera that does that, but outdoor cameras with that feature seem rare. Maybe with surveillance systems?

I've been lucky with Spectrum where I am. Its very consistent with speed if not blazingly fast. Plenty fast enough for at least 4K TV if I were doing that. The only options here would be satellite which is expensive and slow or trying to create a hot spot which I can't do as we have no cell reception. The data minutes I have to buy for my "emergency" cell phone that I use only when driving have been accumulating for literally years. Should we somehow get cell service here I should have months of data minutes I would use to create a hot spot. We won't be getting fiber optic cable in my lifetime nor are we likely to be getting 5G service. I'm just grateful the internet we have is pretty reliable.

When we bought our house, we had a most difficult time the first winter we were here.  We even had the utility company come and give us an "insulation" exam.  Turns out that for many years the insulation was insufficient plus wadded up in spots.  We had that fixed and now we have mold problems very seldom.

The 'air quality' here is poor so people are advised to stay indoors.  The heat index is over 100 deg F and it is only 9:00 a.m.

86 this morning.  We are going to have pretty normal temps here for the next week but I understand that a "heat dome" is going to cause a heat wave again for a lot of the North West and Mid West next week.  Fires are still a big problem and the fire in Oregon is over 400,000 acres and a fire in Northern California is now over 100,000 acres.  It is still early in the fire season and usually September and October are the worst so no telling what we will see then.
My cable internet is great when it works.  I have over 100 mb/s download and a terrabite a month usage which I never come close to.  It is cheaper than Satellite which I had when living on the mountain but still $80 a month.  The problem I have is that there is a bad connection somewhere that causes the connection to cut out on and off.  I will probably have them come out again to try to find the problem but it has to happen when they are here and there is no way to know when it will cut out.
Barbara, glad you are feeling better.  I hope you solved your problem.  I am kind of OCD about the dishes and wash them every day even if it is only a couple of things.  I never thought about mold.  When we moved into this house the family that was living here had two girls and the mother always kept their bathroom door closed even when it was not being used.  There was black mold all over the wall and ceiling around the shower.  I bought a product that was for getting rid of mold and it did a great job and got rid of it all.  I have not seen any mold around here since but then it is usually pretty dry here.

Thanks everyone, I am feeling so much better! I've never had mold here before so never even suspected it. I was just in a funk for a bit and let things go...won't happen again.

It is good that you got to the bottom of the problem. Living alone, one can also tend to put off the cleaning for a bit.

Didn't check this morning as I was out with some of my 'shooting' friends. We had a small get-together at the range after a very long time, and on such occasions there is a lot of drinking and gluttony. Came back at around 2 am.

Drinking, gluttony and guns sounds like just about a perfect gentleman's night out, SKB!

When we moved to Connecticut we rented a great little house on a farm. The prior tenant for many years, however, was a shepherd. Among other things when my wife started cleaning the stove she discovered it had about a quarter inch of sheep fat baked onto the control panel along with mice in the oven who often popped their heads out when a burner was lit - shortly after we found that the front door was nailed shut as the shepherd occasionally kept sheep in the house. We did a lot of cleaning! That experience adjusted our understanding of slovenliness considerably.

It does not take long before mice are willing and able to take up residence in a home or a car.  My husband retired a year ago and his little car sat in the driveway.  He only drove it occasionally and so decided to sell it to a friend.  He went to take his possessions out of the car only to find a mouse nest in the engine compartment.  I was sure glad it was him that found the nest.
