103 this smoky morning.

82° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 91°/55°. May have a stray shower or thunderstorm.

Sleep is not a problem for me, in fact I slept in late today which may lessen my step count.  I sleep like a rock most nights except for those very few nights when I just can't seem to fall asleep, then I take a Benadryl.

That's how well I sleep. I have had an issue with sleep since I can remember. I get sleep in patches, and nowadays, my first bout (from the time I hit the bed) is the most important one. It can be as good as 6 hours or as little as 2 hours or under. Once I'm awake getting back to sleep is tough. It's always intermittent and interrupted. But my system has gotten used to it. I don't complain and don't take any drug or melatonin like supplement. I manage with what I can get.

174 this morning.

My visit with the endocrinologist yesterday was exciting in that the building had to be evacuated on account of gas while I was with the doctor (a first!). Nevertheless, we were far enough along for him to tell me my A1c was 7.0 which must be a record for me. Everything else looks pretty good as well.

When I was in school I worked five nights a week from midnight to 9:00am and then went to classes. Ever since I've felt that sleep seemed like wasted time. I am insistent upon going to bed at 9:00pm, however, no matter what. Usually I fall asleep fairly quickly (having read for a bit and with sound effects playing) but am awake again in a couple of hours. I may or may not go back to sleep. Truth be told, sleeping is odd and dreaming odder still - no one can really say authoritatively what dreaming is; all explanations are basically just conjecture.

One last thing: following cancer surgery I couldn't sleep for days. The result was weeks of vivid hallucination that I was convinced were reality; sufficiently so to have permanently altered my understanding of the world in which we live.

Well, life is interesting isn't it?

99 this morning.

Sleep for me is like the cartoon that skb posted.  Come 4-5 a.m. then I can sleep SO good.  But it is close to the time when I naturally wake in order to start my day.  I don't nap because it interferes big time with what little sleep I manage to get at night.  I do use melatonin or cbd products to pave the way to falling asleep.

99 this morning. Another 110° day today then it is supposed to cool down a bit but still over 100° but not bad for August.
I am lucky that I don't have a problem with sleeping.  I don't take anything and fall to sleep most of the time pretty fast.  I do have to get up a couple of times a night to pee but I usually fall back to sleep easily.  I am usually in bed by 9:00 PM and get up between 5 and 6 AM.  Fitbit seems to do a pretty good job of recording the quality of sleep and shows light, deep and REM periods.  It shows when I wake up during the night and how long I was awake before falling back to sleep.  It seems that I dream mostly in the morning, at least that is what I remember, and I am amazed at the things my mind comes up with, pretty much adventures, nothing bad or stressful.

107 this morning. Slightly less smoke.

85° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 90°/55°.

Wow Tamagno, that sounds like a very interesting dr appointment!

I don't dream often, at least that I remember. The ones I do remember usually happen early morning. Some are scary/troubling and wake me up. Others are mundane, I'm at some sort of job working or in school.

Tamagno, I hope the evacuation exercise was not too exhaustive or painful.
Your story sounded something like the movie 'Whiplash'. Being a professional musician, I am sure you have seen and enjoyed the movie. I would love to hear more of your new perspective of the world we live in.

My daughter is a psychologist and recently took an added interest in Dreams. Having discussed a couple of my dreams with her, I have come to the conclusion that this branch of science doesn't really know much of what's happening and the analysts only add to the confusion.

My personal view is that
(a) the brain never sleeps (acknowledged by all)
(b) therefore we "dream" all the time that we 'sleep'
(c) we only remember those dreams when our sleep is disturbed and we are not truly asleep.
(d) most of our dreams are made up of our day to day experiences, weighted heavily towards current happenings in our life.
(e) most of the time our body itself wakes us up in the midst of deep sleep to attend to something important, like low BG or to pee or if blood flow to some part is interrupted due to pressure OR most of the time gut/stomach/digestive issues. In such cases, I have experienced sudden dream alteration. I mean, a good dream quickly turning nightmarish or something like that just to wake us up. That happens a lot to me.
I would love to hear your thoughts. This is an interesting subject.

This is an interesting subject. I have been interested in dreams for a long time and have many books on them in my library. Sadly, none have really answered any questions I have had on the origin or reason behind the dreams.

My working theory is our dreams reflect our life experiences. I was abused physically and sexually as a child by several people. My first husband was Chinese and very stoic(clueless- he was the Man..it was the 70's). My goal in life at that point was that my children would never experience any of what I did and I succeeded, they are both well adjusted public servants with 3 children each that are amazing. But all that history was still festering in me.

My second husband had health issues that he ignored as much as he could. I was his sole caretaker as our dr said we didn't need hospice as he had me. Wrong! It took two years, diabetes, a 5 way bypass, a leg amputation, and leukemia, before he died in my arms. I was so broken after that I tried to take my life twice. Drugs, hospitalizations and therapy got me back on the road to recovery, But the nightmares haunt me.

Most of my dreams are horrific nightmares, I usually wake in terror. The few that are not so bad I vaguely remember. Thankfully things are better now. I think this history is why I am content to be a hermit as much as possible.

It took me a while for me to post this. I was afraid it might be a trigger, but I feel this is a safe place and it is actually releasing to finally let this go out into the universe,,,

116 this morning.

Dreams for me are almost always scarry - sometimes to the point of me waking up screaming.  Waking up screaming is most embarrassing when we have company for a few days.  The subject matter of my dreams is always the same.  It is probably a re-run of something that happened many years ago, and yet the brain insists on remembering it too often.

87 this morning.  Had a bit of a scare yesterday.  My BIL and I live in the same house and he came home early as the job for that day ended early, he is a plumbing contractor.  Around noon he started to feel weak and sweating heavily with a pressure on his chest so he came inside took a couple of aspirin and sat down but didn't feel any better so I called 911 and the paramedics came and when they did an EKG said he had a heart attack.  He was transported to the hospital and they put a stent in and he is going to come home today.  He is 20 years younger than me but not that great at taking care of his health but hopefully will be OK.  I imagine he will be spending some time seeing a doctor.
I am lucky that my dreams are not scary at all, more of an adventure and probably not related to my daily activities.  I spent a year as an infantry soldier in the jungles of Vietnam and saw some pretty horrible things but thankfully I have never had any dreams related to that.

85 this morning. Still smoky but a big better.

81° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 82°/57°. A thunderstorm passed through last night, only a few drops of rain but at least I didn't see any lightening.

Wally, hope your BIL recovers fully and quickly. That must have been scary for you both.

Wally, hope your BIL is back home and feeling fine by the time you read this. Some of your health related discipline will have to be passed on to avoid future problems. I'm sure you two are going to have long discussions on that.
