Barabara, let your leg heal properly before you attempt anything. Take it easy.

Wally that grabber is something also used by snake catchers.

Grammabear, the "hip kit" Wally mentions is what I got. It includes two grabbers plus a few other things that are great. I use the grabbers regularly as well as a clever device for getting socks on. The bit for socks is especially useful as it lets me avoid awkward/painful bending and also makes it much easier to get socks on over my very gnarly toenails that otherwise are prone to catching in my socks.

SKB, I hadn't considered the grabbers as a tool for snake handling - over here, I rarely have occasion to actually pick up snakes we have around and more often dispatch them by other hands off methods if I suspect it's a poisonous species.

While I really like the idea of a 'grabber', I am fairly certain I would not use it for grabbing snakes.  We haven't had even a garter snake around here for many years.  Our wood pile is a good bit from the house.  In addition we have a surplus of coyotes, hawks and other varmints that are quite willing to make "lunch" out of a snake.  Although we do see the little green garter snakes once in a while.

It seems that with the passing of time I have become shorter because it is harder to reach things in the cupboard that are over my head.  A grabber might fit that bill very nicely.

We got 2 nice big heads of cauliflower this week from Aldis.  I made them into cream of cauliflower soup last night.  Also made Wally's '70 second bread' so we could have a sandwich with the soup.

The weather 'forecast' for here tomorrow is for 5-8" of the white stuff.   :-X

94 this morning.  Some areas in Southern California are seeing significant rain but not here so far.  We are looking at a good chance starting Wednesday and through Sunday.  They are getting quite a bit of snow in the mountains and that is good but now they are worrying about avalanches.
When I worked for California State Parks we had a "grabber" to capture snakes but it was designed specifically for that task.  It was designed to hold the snake without harming it but not let them wiggle out.  We often saw rattle snakes and had to move them out of the campgrounds and where people congregated.
The grabber was quite handy when I was recovering from the broken hip but I now find it very useful, especially for picking things up from the floor and reaching items too high.

Late to post as I wanted to get out to get my errands done as early as possible.

33° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 34°/18°. It is 30° right now so kind of doubt it will make it to 34°.

I've definitely lost height also, Grammabear, (I'm thinking of marking my height on a wall like you do with kids only in reverse to keep track of my shrinkage) so the grabbers help a lot for that. A word of caution - I had a couple around the house I'd probably gotten from Walmart that are completely useless. The ones in the hip kit are vastly better and much more secure.

Still bitter cold here, but thankfully no sign of snow.

We have 'Winter storm warnings' with snow 4-7 inches and wind gusts up to 35mph from 4 p.m. this afternoon until 12 noon on Tuesday.  Power outtages are also possible...just not looking forward to this type of weather.

93 this morning.  There is rain and snow all around us but probably nothing right here today, just very windy.  Another strong system heading this way starting Wednesday and we will probably get something from that.  Of course all of this will be heading East so those of you East of here hunker down.
I have to laugh when I think about the time about 4 years ago at a doctors appointment the nurse measured my height and she said 5' 6" and I said no, I have always been 5'7" and she chuckled and said "well, you know you get shorter as you get older".  I actually didn't  and it was a surprise.  I haven't measured since then so I don't know what my height is now but probably shorter but I have always been short so it is not anything I worry about.

30° was the high yesterday, today's forecast is 32°/14°.

I have gottren shorter too. I was always 5'5" and a couple of years ago at the dr's I measured 5'4" haven't been measured again since then. So I guess it is true we shrink as we get older.

I don't think there is any reason for a person to get shorter with age. It is probably a slouch that makes you look shorter or even 'be' practically shorter. But who knows, science has a way of throwing in surprises.

There are a number of reasons, SKB, that we tend to get shorter with age. Slouching is one, as well as gravity and decreasing bone density. While it's true that performing weight bearing exercises helps increase bone density it won't last a lifetime.

Apropos of the topic there's an old horror film starring Roddy McDowell called "House On Haunted Hill" in which the denouement is unintentionally funny in this regard.

We're in the middle of a snowstorm that hasn't quit yet, even after all night long.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the rheumatologist I saw recently said I am shorter because I have 'bone on bone' in my spine and in both knees.  He offered to do a cortisone shot but I declined because it is a steroid which makes blood sugar go absolutely nuts.

Actually there is a reason we get shorter with age.

It is true that I have noticed a tendency to slouch but I make an effort to stand and walk with good posture as it really helps how I feel.  I am not slouching at all when measured.

86 this morning.  No moisture here yesterday but rain all around us and snow in the mountains and a couple of interstate highways shut down due to snow.  Some time ago the Highway Patrol gave up on people refusing to slow down on snowy highways and just shut them down now.
Today mostly sunny but a major storm is starting tomorrow and will go through Friday.  They are expecting up to 4 feet of snow in the mountains.  We should get some rain here out of this.
I bought a used MackBook and it should get here today.  It is a 2017 MackBook so not the latest but it should be interesting to try it out.  I am really interested to see how it works with my iPhone and iPad.  I have been doing some reading and it looks like it will be fun to explore it.  My Windows laptop is getting kind of long in the tooth and I may replace it soon and if I like this enough I may get a new one.
